  • Did a TV channel stage the evacuation of an alleged Covid-19 death in a report?
  • This is what a viral post on Facebook says, pointing out that the corpse in question himself raises his hand on these images.
  • The excerpt in question is taken from a report making it clear that this scene, filmed in Bolivia, was a reconstruction: it was therefore not actually a real corpse.

“Another blatant proof of manipulation. Covid-19 deaths moving. Shameful. "On Facebook, a video shared more than 1,000 times claims to demonstrate by image a media lie aimed at increasing the death toll from the coronavirus and to maintain public fear in this regard.

We see three people dressed in a full protective suit activating around a man lying on the ground. A voiceover says: “Look closely at this image, where there is the arrow, look at the red dot, look at this hand moving. This person is supposed to be someone who died of the coronavirus, and who is being recovered by the health services to protect the rest of the population from possible infection ”. We can indeed see, near the arrow added to the images, that the reclining person himself raises his hand when one of the men in overalls is about to grab his arm to move it.

“It's to show you how the mainstream media do everything to create fear. […] This person is sold as someone who died of the coronavirus and who is recovered, packed, ”continues the voice-over, while the video plays the same excerpt over and over.

FAKE OFF

If this excerpt is authentic, it is taken out of context: the Bolivian television report from which it is taken clearly specified that the scene in question was a reconstruction of the abduction of a corpse.

We find these images in a video posted on July 24 on the YouTube account of the Bolivian channel "ATB Digital", as can be seen below, the country having declared the state of "public calamity" in beginning of the week because of the Covid-19 epidemic.

The images are used there to illustrate a report entitled "The FELCC recovered 86 bodies positive for COVID-19 or [suspected of being] this Thursday", devoted to the particular mission carried out by this specialized agency of the Bolivian police.

Above all, we can clearly read the words “recreación” (from 1'01) indicating that it is a reconstitution, as our colleagues from Bolivia Verifica pointed out on July 26th.

The same images had also been broadcast in another report from the channel, a few days earlier, without this important textual precision, to illustrate the interview with the director of the IDIF, the Institute of judicial investigations, originally of 3,016 forensic examinations since April 2020.

Another sequence produced by ATB Digital in July finally showed a removal procedure from a real corpse, an operation very similar to the one visible on this reconstruction.
