Alain Soral in 2009 - REVELLI-BEAUMONT / SIPA

The far-right essayist Alain Soral was arrested and taken into police custody on Tuesday for "provocation to commit a crime or an offense affecting the fundamental interests of the Nation", we learned on Wednesday from concordant sources.

These would be comments made on its site Equality and reconciliation, according to one of the sources close to the investigation.

Convicted many times

Alain Soral, whose real name is Alain Bonnet, 61, is a regular in the courts. He has been sentenced several times by the courts. The last conviction dates from the end of June on appeal: a fine of 5,000 euros, with the possibility of imprisonment in the event of non-payment, for contesting the existence of the Shoah.

On July 6, his two YouTube channels were deleted by the American online video platform, for “repeated breaches of the platform's terms of use”.
