The Covid-19 epidemic killed fourteen new people in 24 hours in hospitals and medico-social establishments in France, where the circulation of the virus remains "sustained", while the number of patients in intensive care continues to decline, a announced Tuesday the Directorate General of Health (DGS).
The total death toll since the start of the epidemic stands at 30,223, including 19,708 in hospitals, and 10,515 in social and medico-social establishments (Ehpad), specifies the DGS in a press release.
Fourteen new clusters in the last 24 hours
The number of patients with a severe form of Covid-19 hospitalized in intensive care continues to decline, with 385 patients concerned, or 13 less than on Monday. Ile-de-France, Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France and Guyana continue to account for 70% of people hospitalized in intensive care.
"Viral circulation is still sustained" on "the whole of the national territory, as shown by the number of grouped cases (" clusters ")", according to the DGS: 624 grouped cases since May 9 including 14 new detected these last 24 hours, and 396 “closed” - which makes 228 households still active.
A "cluster" is defined by the occurrence of at least three confirmed or probable cases, in a period of 7 days, which belong to the same community or have participated in the same gathering.
The DGS calls to remain "vigilant and" fully mobilized "
“Every day, more than a hundred people with Covid-19 are admitted to hospital,” underlines the DGS, which calls for remaining “vigilant” and “fully mobilized” to curb the spread of the virus.
Since the start of the epidemic, 107,010 people have been hospitalized and 81,311 have returned home.
