A 20-year-old Texas native contracted the coronavirus after going to a party with friends. Days later she went to visit her grandparents whom she infected without knowing yet that she was infected . Later, her 80-year-old grandfather died of the deadly virus the day before she woke up in the ICU. Her grandmother is still fighting in the ICU for her life .

The story of this young woman and her grandfather is one of dozens of heartbreaking stories that the chief medical officer at Parkland Hospital in Dallas , Texas has revealed to demonstrate what can happen if protective measures against the coronavirus are not taken . In fact, the story of this young woman has served to raise awareness among young Americans not only of the danger they are in, but of the danger they pose to their loved ones if they do not comply with the measures of social distancing, masks, etc.

Dr. Joseph Chang told the Daily Mail that he treated 55% more Ccovid-19 patients in July than in June. The increase in infections has jumped more than 200% since May. "There are stories behind each of those statistics ," Chang told WFAA. "Covid's human cost is really the untold story."

"The girl, in her 20s, went to a party with a friend and got Covid-19 . Before she was symptomatic, she visited her 80-year-old grandparents and they got sick," says Chang. "The granddaughter spread the coronavirus to her grandparents and entered the ICU where she was intubated," she said. "Ten days later she woke up, but her grandfather had passed away a day before she woke up," he added.

Chang says stories like these are not only heartbreaking for families, but also have a monumental mental and emotional cost to hospital workers struggling to save lives. " I have started to order people to take time off . I just told them that I will not let them work today. You have to go home," he explained.

In Texas, 351,600 cases have been reported since the pandemic broke out, and more than 4,300 people have died, according to US government data. Nationwide, there are nearly four million Covid-19 cases and more than 143,000 deaths.

Chang explained that although the hospital is seeing an increase in Covid-19 patients, about the same number of people beat the virus and leave the hospital.
