The police officers of the 17th and 18th arrondissements of Paris did not expect this visit. It must be said that the President of the Republic had not let anything know before his meeting Monday evening with the police. Emmanuel Macron also did not come empty-handed. Accompanied by Gérald Darmanin, Minister Delegate Marlène Schiappa and Police Prefect Didier Lallement, he announced the payment of a "specific allowance" for police officers working at night, for a total amount of 10 million euros, announced the Interior Ministry.

Trip in a Bac car

During his visit, the Head of State got into a car of the Bac Nuit Paris Nord, based in the 17th arrondissement, then went to the police station of the 18th arrondissement where he met Emergency Police officers.

Police officers were preventing the media from approaching, according to journalists. A video posted on Twitter by a journalist from Brut shows him, however, masked, exchanging a few words with residents. On the other hand, a photo of a journalist from Le Point shows him exchanging without a mask with the police in the 17th district police station.

According to the Elysee, Emmanuel Macron wanted by this visit to thank and support the agents for their commitment on the ground but also to remind them of their "duty of requirement". For its part, the Ministry of the Interior indicated that the allowance "aims in particular to support greater arduousness linked to night work and the transition to work cycles increasing the presence of police in the field". Its cost "will be provided for in the finance bill for 2021".

Confirm the statements of his government

Emmanuel Macron's gesture for the police extends his government's declarations against insecurity, following several violent incidents, including the violent assault of a bus driver, shooting at a firefighter and clashes between Chechens and inhabitants of districts in Dijon. Its Prime Minister Jean Castex on Saturday announced several initiatives against insecurity and the upcoming experimentation in Nice of the extension of the powers of the municipal police.
