Wildlife "Guardians": Rescue as a day for ten years, let them "live"

Wetlands, grass beaches, public welfare forests, villages, etc. This year, 39-year-old Zhu Jiyong patrols whenever he has time to check whether there are any injured wild animals in these places. At the same time, feed on wetlands and woodlands so that the birds going home and passing by have food to eat.

Zhu Jiyong is a cadre of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Jiayuguan City, Gansu Province, and a member of the Jiayuguan City Wildlife Protection Association.

In recent years, the ecological environment of Jiayuguan City has improved, and the local area has become a stop for many wild animals to multiply and migrate. At the same time, the protection and treatment of wildlife has become increasingly important.

In April 2011, an old man carried an injured owl to Jiayuguan City Forestry and Grassland Bureau, begging staff to treat it. "At that time, I had just contacted and had no experience. I saw the owl broke off its left wing and shed a lot of blood. I was at a loss. I was fed anti-inflammatory drugs, but in the end I couldn't save it." Zhu Jiyong said.

"At that time, I was very self-blame and felt guilty, so I began to consult materials and books, learn about wild animals, and accumulate experience in treatment." Zhu Jiyong said.

Over the years, in his spare time, Zhu Jiyong has basically participated in various wildlife protection and rescue volunteer services. There is no professional wildlife rescue agency in the local area, so he cooperates with pet hospitals to perform inspections and surgeries on animals.

On one day in August 2016, Zhu Jiyong received an anonymous call from a villager, saying that in Huangcaoying Village, Yuquan Town, three or four migrant workers illegally hunted two peregrine falcons, which are under national second-class protection, and are packing them for transportation. . Zhu Jiyong didn't have time to think, and drove there alone. "Don't dare to delay, for fear that they will be transferred and it will be difficult to find them."

When he arrived at Caoying Village and found the house number, Zhu Jiyong found that the villager's door was unlocked, so he went straight into the yard to look for the peregrine falcon, and finally found the peregrine falcon tied with a rope in the corner of the yard, his eyes were covered with black cloth. Zhu Jiyong hurriedly untied the rope of the peregrine falcon, took off the blindfold, and put it in a cardboard box to take it away quietly.

As he was about to go out, three or four people came out of the house and surrounded him, pushing and holding him to prevent him from leaving. "Don't be afraid, they should have a guilty conscience for what they did illegally. I was very tough at the time and told them that I belonged to the Forestry Inspection Team and I must take the Peregrine Falcon away." In the push and pull insults, Zhu Jiyong crowded out the crowd. Get out of the door and drove away.

"They didn't dare to do it, they were just swearing and obstructing. They should also know that they were doing something illegal. If they did it, I would definitely not be an opponent." Zhu Jiyong thought of the scene at that time, heartbroken but not regretful.

Later, after a week of meticulous feeding, the two rescued peregrine falcons quickly recovered their strength. Zhu Jiyong drove to the depths of the jungle more than 30 kilometers away from the city and released them to nature.

Although he is busy at work, Zhu Jiyong never misses the opportunity to rescue animals. On the 1st day of 2017, Zhu Jiyong received a call for help. There was a shale with its mouth full of blood, dying and no one was watching. Zhu Jiyong immediately drove to the Xigou mining area 30 kilometers away, and boarded the operation area above 3000 meters above sea level to bring the rock sheep back.

"I was wearing thin clothes at the time. When I arrived, I found that the mountain was covered with snow, the temperature was very low, and accompanied by a biting cold wind, the whole person was frozen." Zhu Jiyong said that he could not take care of the cold. Check the injury of the rock sheep, from the outside. , Could not see how he was injured, so he brought it back.

After returning, I tried a variety of methods, but Yanyang's spirit was not as good every day. No way, Zhu Jiyong begged friends for help. He invited friends from the city hospital and veterinarians to come to the Yanyang for consultation. After more than 20 days of injections and medication, the Yanyang eventually deteriorated and died. In the end, the doctor judged that it might be sheep disease. Strongly contagious.

"Although I failed to save my life, I am willing to help with money and favors, and try my best to save." Zhu Jiyong said. Speaking of whether he was worried about being infected, he said: "This is all considered in advance. We will take care of every treatment. We will wear medical masks and gloves. It is safe."

Behind every rescue of a small animal, there is a warm story. Whenever there is a wild animal that needs to be treated, Zhu Jiyong will rush to the scene as soon as possible to carefully examine and identify it, prescribe the right medicine, and often pay for the injured animal to buy medicine, perform surgery, and buy food.

"If the rescued wild animal has trauma, inject tetanus, anti-inflammatory and other injections and treat the wound; if there is intestinal disease, take food and medicine every day." Zhu Jiyong summed up the experience accumulated over the years and looked after them like babies. , Until they recover physically and return to nature. Over time, Zhu Jiyong gained the nickname of "animal tuherman".

Sometimes there are dangers in the rescue process. Once, Zhu Jiyong rescued a cormorant from the local Jiabei Industrial Park. "The left wing of the cormorant was ulcerated on a large scale. We injected it with colds, anti-inflammatory and other injections, wiped the wound with the medicine every day, and bought the carp from the market to feed it." During the inspection of the injury, he was almost blinded by the cormorant. . "The mouths and claws of some animals are very sharp, so be very careful in the rescue process to avoid injury." Zhu Jiyong said.

At first, everyone didn't understand and thought he was "nosy." Zhu Jiyong said: "I just think they are the same lives. I want to try my best to save them and keep them alive. It's that simple."

Some birds had their wings completely broken and could not fly after the wounds healed. Zhu Jiyong sent them to the zoo for retirement. "Every time I give it away, I will bring some food and money, so that the administrator will continue to take care of them. I will do my best to provide them with retirement."
