Speech by Prime Minister Jean Castex to the internal security forces, Nice on July 25 - SYSPEO / SIPA

Generalized confinement is only a distant memory, according to Jean Castex. "What must be avoided above all is general reconfinement," the Prime Minister told the Nice Matin daily on Saturday about the Covid-19 epidemic. It would be a measure which would be, according to him, "catastrophic" at the economic and social level,

"We now know what this produces: such a measure breaks the progression of the epidemic, of course, but at the economic and social level, it is catastrophic, including for the psychological health of some of our fellow citizens", insisted the head of government, in an interview published by the regional daily on his site.

"It can be very localized reconfigurations"

"The priority is still prevention," insists Jean Castex, denying that this term of re-containment is "a taboo word" and reassuring about the spread of the virus. “Even if the number of cases is on the rise again, positive tests remain in low averages compared to the countries around us. And hospitalizations remain at a controlled level, ”he insisted in this interview with Nice Matin during a trip to the city focused on the theme of insecurity.

If there must be reconfinement, "it can be very localized reconfinement", concedes Jean Castex: "We will adapt". "To fight against this pandemic, there are simple things to do and not to do, called barrier gestures, until the day a vaccine is found", concludes the Prime Minister.
