The cases are multiplying all over Europe. The European branch of the World Health Organization (WHO) said it was “worried” on Friday about the resurgence of Covid-19 in certain European countries, calling for them to remain reactive and to lift the restrictions “with attention”, even to reintroduce them if necessary.

WHO Europe did not explicitly name the countries of concern, but referred to its online monitoring table.

A very sharp increase in Kyrgyzstan, Israel and Montenegro

With 335 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, Kyrgyzstan is, in relation to its population, the first country concerned in the vast area of WHO Europe with a very strong increasing trend, according to the classification of countries in the region by new cases during of the last 14 days. In countries with a significant number of new cases and an increase in them, follow Israel (256 new cases / 100,000 inhabitants), Montenegro (207), Luxembourg (196), Bosnia (98), Serbia ( 71), Romania (52) or Bulgaria (46).

On the other hand, the trend is downward in other countries with a notable incidence: Armenia (197 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) Kazakhstan (128), Moldova (82), Russia (60) and Sweden ( 46).

"We must remain responsive and lift the restrictions carefully"

"The recent resurgence of Covid-19 cases in some countries after the relaxation of distancing measures is certainly a cause for concern," said a spokesperson for WHO Europe. “We must remain responsive and lift the restrictions carefully. Where new outbreaks appear, they must be controlled with rapid and targeted interventions, including rapid case detection, isolation, tracing and quarantines, ”the WHO stressed.

"If the situation requires it, the reintroduction of more stringent and targeted measures, with the full commitment of the populations, may be necessary," insists the UN organization, warning against the return of a situation which would push again health systems “at their limit”.

Europe crossed the threshold of 3 million cases on Thursday, according to the score made by AFP, with a toll now exceeding 206,000 deaths. According to data from WHO Europe, the number of new cases currently remains globally stable in its European area, around 20,000 per day. A level observed since May 20, and twice lower than the highs of early April.
