- Panic in theaters: 'Tenet' premiere postponed
Father there is only one, 2 , the Santiago Segura film whose premiere was scheduled for August 1, will be in theaters in Spain on Friday the 24th, a week ahead of schedule. The decision is a risky response to the problem that the cinema sector faces in the new normal. During the last weeks, the low influx of public and the fear of the outbreaks have led to the cancellation of some of the most commercially relevant releases of the summer. This same week, Christopher Nolan's undated postponement of Tenet's premiere was interpreted as Hollywood's near-definitive resignation from the summer season, the most profitable on its calendar.
Now, Segura takes the opposite step: he offers to save the season with an almost solo premiere that will allow him, first, to look for his public almost without competition, second, to avoid the dreaded lockout and, third, to try to reactivate the market of the cinema in theaters.
Father there is only one , the film of which the new premiere is a sequel, premiered on August 1, 2019 , in the same summer season that attracts family audiences, and grossed 14 million euros. The success was so outstanding that the commission for the second part was already underway in October.
