"The figures are worrying", but "no indicator is totally red," said the President of the Scientific Council Jean-François Delfraissy, faced with the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic in France. "The circulation of the virus is increasing on the national territory", notes in turn the General Directorate of Health (DGS) this Tuesday evening.

But the general death toll has been revised downwards after correcting the number of deaths in nursing homes, bringing the total of victims to 30,165, according to the DGS. Since the start of the epidemic, 19,649 people have died in hospitals and 10,516 in social and medico-social establishments. A previous report reported 10,541 deaths in nursing homes. “Santé Publique France has informed us of a reprocessing of data relating to deaths in these establishments, resulting in a reduction in the number of deaths,” explains the DGS.

Eight new active households

In all 6,482 people are hospitalized for a Covid-19 infection, including 455 in intensive care, or 12 less than on Monday.

Since May 9, 547 grouped cases (clusters) have been detected but 339 closed, notes the DGS, bringing to 208 the number of outbreaks still active on July 21, including eight new since the day before.

In detail, out of these 208 still active outbreaks, 66 are considered to be “under control”, which means that contact tracing is in progress and that there are no new cases 7 days after the last known one, a the Ministry of Health told AFP.
