Child Abuse Refurbishment of Child Guidance Centers by Increasing Temporary Protection 19:19, July 21, Chiba

The Chiba Children's Counseling Center, which was renovated in response to an increase in “temporary protection” to protect children who have been abused, was opened to the public on the 21st.

At 6 temporary prefectural child guidance centers in Chiba prefecture, we are protecting 180 children, which is 1.6 times the capacity as of the 1st of this month due to abuse and other reasons.

Therefore, in order to increase the number of people that can be accepted, Chiba Prefecture moved the central children's counseling center in Chiba City to a public facility where it was originally, renovated the building, and opened it to the press on the 21st.

The refurbished child guidance center now has eight rooms for children to live in as temporary shelters, and the number of people who accept it has increased by 30 including the existing temporary shelters that are still in use.

The interior of the room is made of plenty of warm wood, and the rooms are named with flowers such as "hydrangea" and "asagaso" so that children can relax.

Up until now, there were many users waiting in line for interview rooms with parents, but we increased the number of rooms and used the "multipurpose room" for exercise as a training space for staff of child guidance centers in the prefecture It is our policy to strengthen our responsiveness.

Toshiaki Yamamoto, Director of the Children's Counseling Center Reform Office of the Prefectural Children and Family Division, said, "We would like to use this refurbishment as an opportunity to put more effort into preventing child abuse."
