The Covid-19 figures are "worrying" and France can "switch" in a situation like that which is raging in Catalonia, even if "no indicator is really in the red", warned Tuesday the president of the Scientific Council, Jean -François Delfraissy, taking stock of the pandemic in France.

Asked by RMC-BFMTV, Jean-François Delfraissy was concerned about “a series of particularly important clusters” in “areas very little affected in particular in the West”. “We are on a somewhat unstable ridge line. The figures are not good, they are worrying, ”he repeated several times.

Wearing the compulsory mask: "It is essential because the French have lost the great notions of distancing" estimates Jean-François Delfraissy, president of the Scientific Council

"None of the indicators is totally red"

“None of the indicators are totally red. We can see very well how France can stay on this crest line with difficulty for the coming weeks, by being very armed, by using tests, by surrounding the clusters in a very massive way, or on the contrary tipping into something that looks like more to Spain, to Catalonia ”, declared the president of the Scientific Council.

The decree on the wearing of the compulsory mask in closed places "was essential", he said. "It is striking to see that the French have lost the great notions of distancing, of great precaution", he stressed, admitting that this relaxation could be understood.

Delfraissy warned in particular of the danger presented by the “somewhat special behaviors” of “super-contaminators”: the danger is maximum “if we associate a person who behaves like a super-contaminator, plus a closed place, plus a gathering. ".

"It is we who have our future" in this summer period, "who will be able to have an epidemic a little managed with a virus which continues to circulate and too many clusters", he warned. By not requiring the wearing of a mask on May 11, "we appealed to civic responsibility," he recalled.

"Simplify access to tests"

Professor Delfraissy worried about “the most precarious populations, people who can fall into precariousness. The 93 is more affected than other departments, the French of foreign origin have a higher mortality rate ”.

These populations "are weakened", "if we allow a larger Covid infection to restart in these populations, it will be for the entire population," he warned. Delfraissy said the health authorities were working to "simplify access to tests" to "make them easier and completely free". Free masks and tests is "a discussion that will be put on the table in the days to come," he said.
