Several hundred people gathered on Sunday at the Col de la Schlucht, in the Vosges, to participate in a picnic protesting against the noise pollution caused by the motorcycles that travel the massif.

The participants, who wish to restore the Vosges mountains "its peaceful and natural character", were according to the organizers 400 to 500 at the height of the event, while the prefecture counted about 200 around 1 pm.

Bad blow for tourism

Organized by the association SOS Massif des Vosges and the collective for peace and security in the Vosges mountains, the rally pointed to noise and insecurity linked to motorcycles that had become "unbearable" since the end of confinement.

"Nothing is done to explain to unwanted bikers - not all of them, far from it - that the Vosges are not a speed circuit", deplores Dominique Humbert, president of SOS Massif des Vosges. According to him, the current situation contrasts "with the quality of silence appreciated by the residents during confinement" and goes against the stated will to develop family tourism in the region.

Roads soon to be limited to 40 km / h?

While five departmental councils and prefectures share the massif, the organizers plan to make proposals in the coming weeks. They recommend, among other things, a speed limit of 60 km / h in the mountains and 40 km / h on the Route des Crêtes and other summit routes, as well as the installation of baffles.
