This survey was conducted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to target 1811 boards of education nationwide to understand the impact of the new coronavirus on learning.

The shortening period varies across Japan, with Ota-ku, Toshima-ku, Arakawa-ku and Adachi-ku having 16 days in Tokyo, while Setagaya-ku has 31 days.

Sendai City plans to shorten the summer vacation period for elementary and junior high schools to 11 days from August 8th to 18th.
