The village built on the embankment: the embankment is the home

Jiangxi Town, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, surrounded by water on all sides, deals with floods every year; this year, all 1,500 acres of farmland have been drained

On July 15th, the villagers and soldiers of the army built a sub-dike together on the low dam north of Jiangzhou Town, Jiujiang City. Beijing News reporter Tao Ranshe

The flood flooded the villagers almost overnight.

Liangzhouchang Village, Jiangzhou Town, is a village located on the embankment line on the north side of Jiangxin Island, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, surrounded by water on all sides. There are two or three floors of houses on both sides of the long and narrow embankment road.

As the first line of defense against floods in Jiangzhou Town, the villagers of Liangzichang are not unfamiliar with floods. They deal with floods of different water levels every year.

At 18:00 on July 12, the water level of Jiujiang Station on the Yangtze River reached 22.81 meters, and the warning water level of Chaojiang Xinzhou was 3.31 meters.

58-year-old Huang Hairong experienced floods in 1998. "Each house was a few tile houses, and most houses in the village collapsed."

But 22 years later, the seed farm is safe and sound. At present, only the ground floor of the houses outside the embankment enters the village, and almost all the 1,500 acres of farmland floods are discharged.

Yang Zhenqi, 54-year-old retired farm director of the seed farm, said: "In the seed farm, every household has enough experience in flood control."

More than 100 villagers guarded the 2898-meter dike line day and night

At the beginning of July, Huang Hairong took her 11-year-old granddaughter and 6-year-old grandson back to the village to live. She returned in accordance with the flood control period of previous years. Every morning when the door is opened, you have to stand in the corridor to see the water level of the Yangtze River.

After several torrential rains, the Yangtze River's water changed color. One night, the water level went up a lot, approaching the bottom of the periphery of the dam, "This water is rising too fast, it's scary."

Yang Zhenqi, the head of the retired farm of Pedigree Farm, can estimate the approximate water level by looking at the location of the flood and the dam. Seeing the speed of this rise, he urged the villagers to pay attention, "This year, there is a big flood."

In addition to moving the debris in the basement to the first floor, Huang Hairong hurriedly called his son in the urban area of Jiujiang and asked him to pick up the child. "I have to stay and guard the dam. I am afraid that the children will cry when they see such a big water. "

At 0:00 on July 5, the flood reached 19.5 meters on the Jiangxinzhou police line, and the bottom of the house outside the dam was soaked in the flood. The secretary of the branch of the elite seed farm Wang Tao and the village cadres called the villagers one by one, "This year's flood season is coming, every family and every household needs to arrange at least one person to return to the village to participate in flood control in the flood season."

There are 143 households and more than 500 villagers in the improved seed farm, and less than one-tenth stay in the village all year round. During the flood season, flood control on two shifts in 24 hours requires a lot of manpower.

Village cadres and villagers at home first line up to work, and the rainproof cloth, gravel and snakeskin bags necessary for flood control are stacked in the village branch. On the Jiangzhou embankment, there is a flood control post every few hundred meters. It is a small house with red tiles and white walls. A red flag is floating with a bed and a set of tables and chairs. The village cadres are kept at the flood control post during the flood season.

The villagers rushed back from Jiujiang City, Nanchang City, Guangdong Province, Zhejiang Province, Shandong Province and other places, and joined the flood control duty team as soon as they arrived home.

Inside the embankment, the wires were pulled up, and a long string of light bulbs illuminated the embankment. More than 100 villagers who rushed back to the village from other places were divided into 5 groups, and they were on duty day and night to guard the 2,898-meter embankment line along the village.

Wang Xun (pseudonym), a 25-year-old boy working in the urban area of Jiujiang, went to the island as soon as he received a phone call. This was his first time to participate in flood control. In the past, it was the task of his elders in the family. He took it this year.

When patrolling, I didn’t know what to do. My neighbor’s neighbor put a bucket of gravel “melon seeds” and weeded the inside of the dam while teaching him, “Look for places where there are splashes, look carefully, and dig here. Open a little bit and quickly throw a handful of melon seeds into it and plug it."

As of July 10, the flood surge is still very fast, with a daily increase of more than 0.4 meters. The water level of the Jiujiang Station on the Yangtze River has reached 22.03 meters. If it rises again, there may be a risk of flooding.

On July 12, Jiangxi Jiujiang Jiangzhou Town Flood Control and Drought Relief Command issued a notice that apart from young and middle-aged people, other residents need to complete the evacuation in batches before July 13.

Several old people in the village wanted to stay together to fight the floods. "I haven't seen such a big flood in more than 20 years." Wang Tao persuaded several rounds that each flood control post had enough staff to patrol before the old people were willing to evacuate to the urban area of Jiujiang. .

The rain is still falling. The armed police officers and villagers who came to support built a sub-dike on the Jiangzhou embankment, packed the sand with sand bags, piled it on the dam on both sides without houses, and put a rainproof cloth. This is the first need to be raised. s position.

"We have a lot of peace of mind with so many officers and soldiers coming." While loading the sandbags, Huang Hairong looked at the young armed police officers and soldiers, and he said from time to time, "Slightly install a little sand, take a break. Too heavy to carry a few bags can't bear it."

The house is tall and strong

Villagers in the elite seed farm are no strangers to floods. They deal with floods of different water levels every year. During the rainy season of Jiangzhou Town, the Yangtze River rises every year during the rainy season, but the usual floods rarely overflow the embankment.

Before his retirement in 2017, every year during the flood season, Yang Zhenqi patrolled the embankment and slept in a flood control post at night. Initially, the flood warning signal was a three-flash light. When the signal was seen, it was pulled three times. The signal passed from one family to the next.

Before this year, the seed farm experienced the floods of 1995 and 1998, and many villagers remembered the flood on this dike. At that time, most of the villagers of the improved seed farm moved out of other villages in Jiangzhou Town and bought two or three bungalows for infrastructure. The river bank was not planted with poplars. The river was a hundred meters of sandy beach.

Huang Hairong remembered that when the flood occurred in 1998, he first went to the beach a little bit. The village cadres organized everyone to use bags to fill the soil and pile up the embankment. Several villagers took a boat to go to Jiangzhou town to pull the gravel. Get out of the boat and hear a shout, "Break the embankment and run to a height."

The terrain of Jiangzhou Town is high outside and low inside. The flood broke down the levee on the side of Jiangzhou Town. The big waves rushed in, and the low-lying farmland was first submerged. The cotton in the sandy land grew to the knee height and was quickly submerged in the flood. The villagers went to the water to bring the beds, cabinets and grains to the embankment, and then hugged a porcelain jar, one next to the other.

A few hours later, a long series of red brick buildings in the village could only eaves in the flood. The house was soaked and shaken in the flood, and finally collapsed slowly.

The government urgently launched emergency rescue measures to send the elderly and children to Jiujiang for resettlement.

It took almost a month for the flood to recede completely. The first thing the villagers did was to find the dustpan to pick up the soil, and pile up a pile of sand and pile it on the embankment in front of the house. A little bit."

When rebuilding the house, everyone discussed building on both sides of the embankment. The first floor was raised and at least 1 meter away from the embankment. There was a small staircase in front of the gate. The basement was used as a cotton warehouse. It was sold after the autumn harvest, avoiding the flood season. .

For more than ten years, along the dike line, slowly building up a building. Huang Hairong said that in addition to building the house high and making it strong, the younger generation grows up and generally goes to Jiujiang City or other cities to buy a house. When the flood strikes again, the old and the young can have a safe haven location.

Over the past 22 years, the levee has been continuously strengthened

In the past 22 years since the last major flood, the town has organized several embankment repairs, and the 37-kilometer dam around the island has been continuously strengthened.

The embankment surface was widened to more than three meters, heightened to 24 meters above the water level, a cement pavement was built, a trapezoidal slope was built inside the embankment, and a low two dam platform was built at the bottom of the slope to dig a ditch between the farmland and the To the dike and the role of draining the accumulated water.

The Yangtze River's flooding has been slow, and the low-lying plains on the island can't drain water. When the rain and the weather increase, the crops will "drain". The small reservoir formed by digging the earth and digging earth just takes part of the accumulated water discharged from the farmland.

Every year during the flood season, the most important thing for villagers is flood control. A few days after the shift, the villagers who go out to work will definitely come back, and the people who stay in the village will throw away the work in the cotton field and will not dare to relax.

The flood control post of the improved seed farm is located in the villagers' homes, and the villagers between the two posts are divided into a group responsible for the protection of this section of the embankment. The villagers work in groups of two at intervals of about an hour. They must pay attention to the water level of the lower embankment line and check carefully whether there are gaps in the embankment.

In order to prevent the danger of floods damming dams, the seed farm has 15 flood control posts, and the cadres of Jiangzhou Town and their villages are hung on the walls of the post. They need to pay attention to the flood situation in real time during the flood season, release information, and notify each villager , "You can't go wrong at all."

Different water levels correspond to different inspection frequencies. As soon as the water level reaches the warning line, the villagers patrol once every 2 hours. When the water level reaches 21.5 meters, the patrol on the dike cannot be interrupted. "Every year during the flood season, we must treat the flood prevention with the possibility of major floods, and we can't relax." Yang Zhenqi said, "In the seed farm, every family and every family has enough experience in flood control."

"Our generation is not afraid, and we get used to it every year. Following the flood control instructions in the village, the flood can't flow through." Huang Hairong said.

  "Shoudi is keeping home"

At two o'clock in the morning on July 12, the water level of Jiujiang Station on the Yangtze River reached 22.67 meters, and the warning water level of Chaojiang Xinzhou was 3.17 meters, approaching the highest historical water level of 23.03 meters in 1998, a difference of 0.36 meters.

Huang Hairong and the villagers carried another round of sandbags, and the flashlight turned towards the river, not seeing whether the water level was rising. "Worry, where dare to go to sleep."

The water pump on the edge of the farmland is always on. Due to the rain, the drainage is not effective for a day or two. A villager picked all the watermelons and tomatoes in the vegetable field behind the house, fearing that the flooding will overwhelm and the fruits will rot in the field.

At 18:00 on July 12, the flood peak in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River passed from Hankou to the Jiujiang River. The water level of the Jiujiang Station on the Yangtze River reached 22.79 meters, and then the water level began to fall slowly.

At 14:00 on July 15, the water level of Jiujiang Station on the Yangtze River was 22.48 meters, a drop of 0.15 meters from 14:00 the day before yesterday. Village cadres are organizing villagers to check for leaks on the embankment of the improved seed field. The outer side of the dam has been wrapped with waterproof cloth, and the upper and lower sides are fixed with ropes on wooden piles and stones. The water waves hit the waterproof cloth and the sand will not be washed away.

"We are the first line of defense in Jiangzhou Town. Everyone in the village has returned. Everyone is actively fighting floods." Wang Tao was sitting on the edge of the dam, with peanut fields and corn fields in front of him. It is a large piece of Yingying green.

"Our house is built on the embankment. This is not a family-owned business. There can be no problems with any section of the embankment line." Huang Hairong said, when the flood retreats, the villagers who return to the village will leave. "No one will Not active, guarding the dike is guarding our home."
