The Minister of Health asked medical biology laboratories this Friday to "further increase their mobilization" to ensure a sufficient number of screening tests for Covid-19 during the summer, according to his services.

Olivier Véran exchanged this Friday afternoon with the unions of medical biologists and the main groups of medical analysis laboratories, during an audio conference, the ministry told AFP. The Minister had estimated Thursday in the National Assembly that "the 400,000 mark" of screening tests per week would soon be reached, against 200,000 a few weeks ago. "We are capable of doing much more, and even a million if necessary," he added.

A test without a prescription soon possible

Friday, he "recognized the mobilization" of the laboratories but stressed "the need to maintain the testing capacity", while some indicators suggest a resumption of the epidemic and that the time to be tested and get the results s 'are lengthening in certain territories.

The announcement by Emmanuel Macron of the upcoming possibility of carrying out a diagnostic test without a prescription should "streamline the patient journey", avoiding having to make an appointment with his doctor beforehand, estimates the ministry. The way in which this announcement will be put into practice - decree removing the need for a prescription or generalization of the sending of screening vouchers by Health Insurance - is "not yet arbitrated".
