Preventing water accidents Making a video of waiting for rescue while wearing clothes Japanese Red Cross Society July 17 16:38

The swimming class was canceled at many schools due to the influence of the new coronavirus, and many children are not accustomed to water, but the Japanese Red Cross Society has created a new video to prevent accidents and it will be used at elementary schools etc. We are starting to work on it.

Every year, the Japanese Red Cross Tokyo Branch holds a practical training course of "clothing swimming" in which you float on the water and wait for rescue when you drown in a river or the sea.

This time, swimming classes were canceled at many schools due to the influence of the new coronavirus, and since practical training at school could not be opened, we summarized the precautions and points of "clothing swimming" to avoid accidents. I made a video and decided to use it online.

The video explains how to easily float when you fall into water and how to wear a life jacket properly.

We asked Yasushi Odaka of the Tokyo Branch of the Japanese Red Cross Society who made the video about the points of clothing swimming.

First of all, when you are about to drown, it is important to "float in the water". Be calm and relax as much as possible, and keep your arms and legs in a supine position. At this time, it is easy for the eyes to float when facing straight up.

Also, it is said that one thing to hold around things such as plastic bottles and cooler boxes that help float is around the chest. On top of that, he said that he wanted to wear a life jacket in consideration of safety when playing in the river or the sea, and to wear it properly, such as tightening the belt that passes through the crotch so that it does not come off easily.

He also pointed out that many children are not accustomed to water and there are no beaches to open, so more caution is required.

Yasushi Odaka of the Tokyo Branch of the Japanese Red Cross Society said, ``I think there will be more summer vacations and more opportunities to go to the waterfront such as rivers and the sea. Never go into the water alone, make sure to go out with multiple people to save lives. One practice is to practice clothing swimming in the pool for home use."
