The number of coronavirus contaminations is increasing in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, with clusters formed in particular during private parties. Professionals once again insist on the need to respect barrier gestures to avoid congestion in hospitals.

Is the coronavirus epidemic starting again in certain areas of France? The alert threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants has been reached in Mayenne, where several municipalities have already taken steps to make the mask compulsory before a decree across the country next week. Professionals also note a worsening of the situation in New Aquitaine.

The Southwest region has gone from around 40 cases per week to over 100 patients for the current week. There are several reasons for this upsurge: holidays and the influx of tourists, returns from foreign countries but also and above all the non-respect of barrier gestures, especially with family and friends.

Clusters formed during private events

"We frequently meet people diagnosed positive who have had an evening at their home", explains Laurent Filleul, epidemiologist at Public Health France. "There were twenty people and among them, seventeen find themselves positive. The majority of the clusters that we observe are formed with this mode of contamination." Of the ten clusters in New Aquitaine, six are in fact linked to private events.

In the field, caregivers are already feeling this increase in contamination in New Aquitaine. In two weeks, SOS Doctors received 20% more calls to Bordeaux, all linked to symptoms of the coronavirus.
