Amazon Publishing has acquired the rights to publish the book by David Bushman and Mark Givens Blonde, Beautiful, and Dead: The Murder Mystery That Inspired Twin Peaks (“The Blonde, Beautiful and Dead: The Secret of Murder that inspired Twin Peaks”). In the work, which will be written in the genre of documentary prose, the authors will talk about the murder of the young American Hazel Drew in 1908, which formed the basis of the cult series Twin Peaks.

The writers said that the idea of creating the book came about because of their passion for Twin Peaks, but over the years of working with materials about the mysterious murder, they realized that the story of Hazel Drew in itself was very interesting.

According to representatives of Metabook Entertainment, the work will investigate “secrets, corruption and gender issues that residents of one small town tried to hide” during the investigation of the Hazel Drew murder. The book is expected to go on sale in the winter of 2021.

According to Indie Wire, a documentary will be shot on this plot. According to screenwriter and writer Mark Frost, who worked with David Lynch on Twin Peaks, this story captured him as a child, and even now, after many years, it seems modern to him.

“The murder of Hazel Drew, the first story of this crime that captivated me as a child, draws you into the intricacies of influence, money, the ratio of power and gender - which seems absolutely modern. On the basis of this terrible story, the atmosphere of horror of a fictitious tragedy was built, in which decades later the question was raised: who killed Laura Palmer? ” - said Mark Frost.

The project will be directed by Benjamin Alfonsi. He noted that he “was incredibly pleased to see how the Hazel story finds its own independent life.” Alfonsey suggested that the documentary “will give her the opportunity to speak out, which she did not have in real life.”

Young American Hazel Drew died in Sand Lake, New York, in the summer of 1908. Her body, like the corpse of the heroine of "Twin Peaks" Laura Palmer, was found on the shore of a reservoir. However, it was not wrapped in polyethylene: the girl was found with a lace from her neck. Hazel Drew died of a dull head injury.

Familiar Hazel believed that she, like Laura, was an exemplary girl and was not in a relationship with any of the young people. However, after death, it turned out that she had a very eventful and chaotic personal life. Police discovered Hazel's voluminous correspondence with several men. During the investigation, new suspects constantly appeared.

As a result, despite the injuries characteristic of violent death, the police concluded that all suspects had no motive. In this regard, a version was made about the accident: an allegedly inattentive driver shot down Hazel Drew at night and, frightened of punishment, threw her body into a pond.

The murder of the girl has not yet been disclosed.

Mark Frost has repeatedly said that he heard this story from his grandmother, who lived in Sand Lake. Then it sounded like a ghost legend, warning against walking in the woods at night.

The premiere of the series "Twin Peaks" took place on April 8, 1990. Until mid-June 1991, two seasons were shown, which included 30 episodes. Six episodes were shot by David Lynch himself, and invited directors worked on the rest. Among them are Tim Hunter, Diane Keaton, Mark Frost and many others.

The series became very popular and received the status of a cult. In subsequent years, Twin Peaks often made it to the ratings of the greatest television series of all time.

In addition, it is believed that he radically changed the approach to creating multi-part tapes.

In 1992, David Lynch released the full-length prequel to the series - Twin Peaks: Through Fire. The film tells about the investigation into the murder of Theresa Banks, as well as about the last days of Laura Palmer's life. The tape failed at the box office, raising just over $ 4 million.

In 2017, the mini-series Twin Peaks: The Return was released. The director of all 18 episodes was David Lynch. He worked on the script with Mark Frost. The sequel became popular and received mostly positive reviews from critics. They noted the original storylines, as well as innovative solutions of the director.
