Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, July 12 (Reporter Wang Yijuan and Min Jie) Chunyang Street, Lijie Street, Qichao Road, Baisha Road... There are more than 30 streets named after the Chinese in the dotted streets of Hong Kong. Although the number is small, it records the touching stories of generations of generations of forefathers struggling and caring for their home country.

Without the hard work and hard work of these predecessors, there would be no Hong Kong today. Those names engraved on the street and marked by the times are deeply embedded in the depths of historical memory, and still radiate warmth to this day.

Rise amidst hardships and obtain street "naming rights"

Walking on the streets of Hong Kong, almost all of them are the names of streets with strong colonial colors such as Pottinger, Daddy, Aberdeen, etc. The streets named after the Chinese are among the more than 4,000 long and short streets in Hong Kong. Not much, it is easy to miss if you do not look carefully.

Causeway Bay is one of the most prosperous business districts in Hong Kong. The black sign "Qichao Road" stands on the opposite side of Hysan Place with dense passenger flow.

Qi Chao is Liang Qichao, a well-known Chinese name. In the modern history of China, Liang Qichao participated in the "Bus Letter" and the Reform Movement of 1898, calling for salvation. "Youth is strong, the country is strong, and wisdom is the country's wisdom", written in 1900, the passionate "Chinese Youth" is from his handwriting.

In the early days of Hong Kong, most streets were named after British people or place names, such as Pottinger Street, Kennedy Road, Hennessy Road, etc. were named after the Governor. In the late 19th century, Hong Kong's status as a major transit port in southern China was established.

Zheng Baohong, an honorary advisor to the Hong Kong Museum of History, told reporters that during this period, Chinese businessmen achieved a decisive position in the Hong Kong economy, such as the Li Sheng family and the Lee Hysan family, and a number of streets named after the Chinese appeared.

Among these streets, Shouson Hill Road was named after Zhou Shouchen, the first Chinese Councillor (later renamed the Hong Kong Executive Council) during the British colonial rule. In the early 20th century, Zhaojianli was named after famous entrepreneur and philanthropist Deng Zhaojian, and Chunyang Street was named after "Sugar King" Guo Chunyang. In Causeway Bay, the Baisha Road adjacent to Qichao Road was taken from Chen Xianzhang (the "Mr. Baisha") who was originally from Guangdong Xinhui.

"Li Sheng Brothers", who was once rich, is still here

Take a tinker car in Causeway Bay and you will reach Li Sheng Street in Sheung Wan in about half an hour. As you might have guessed, this street is named after Hong Kong rich businessman Li Sheng. There is also a Li Jie Street named after his brother Li Jie in Wan Chai.

Li Sheng is one of the important Chinese representatives in the 19th century. In 1854, the Li Sheng family came to Hong Kong from Guangdong Xinhui in order to avoid wars. At first, they engaged in money exchange business, then founded a trading company, and gradually developed into the richest Chinese businessman at that time.

Li Sheng owns the property rights of Li Sheng Street, Gao Sheng Street, Songxiu East Street and Songxiu West Street in Hong Kong. Among them, Gaosheng Street is famous for the sale of Chinese medicinal materials, also known as "medicinal material street", which is a curved street. Today's Gaosheng Street is full of flavors of Chinese medicinal materials such as orange peel and perilla. There are many shops selling Chinese medicinal materials and ginseng and seafood.

The reporter went to Li Sheng Street in Sheung Wan according to the picture and walked into Li Sheng Street Playground. There are some fitness equipment in the playground, and some people sit idle on the benches. A tall Duying tree is just in season, full of white flowers and colorful.

In Wanchai, Lijie Street is a north-south street, connecting Johnston Road in the north and Queens Road East in the south. This street is not very noticeable. The street sign named Li Jie Street named after Li Sheng's brother Li Jie is intact.

There was a row of beautiful old buildings on Lee Festival Street similar to Macau's junior bus arch, which is very impressive. In 1994, the old building was demolished due to the construction of a real estate development company, and now you can only see a fake exterior wall and a small Nanyang-style garden, which still vaguely retains the flavor of an old street.

Enthusiastic charity generously contributes to the home country

During the period of British colonial rule, some people were enthusiastic about public welfare, actively fighting for the interests of their compatriots, and continuing the Chinese culture. Others have nostalgia for their homeland and support the Revolution of 1911 led by Mr. Sun Yat-sen, which has left a strong stroke in history.

Shouson Mountain Road is located on the bank of Deep Water Bay with beautiful scenery. As a celebrity in Hong Kong history, Zhou Shouchen was born in Huangzhukeng, Hong Kong in 1861, and was selected by the Qing court to study in the United States in 1874.

After returning to Hong Kong, Zhou Shouchen actively promoted the establishment of the Chinese Department at the University of Hong Kong, which changed the attitude of despising Chinese and traditional culture. He is enthusiastic about public welfare and has made many achievements. After he resigned from the House of Representatives in 1937, the authorities named the mountain where his house was located as Shouson Hill, the road in front of his residence Songshouju was named Shoushan Village Road, and the road around the mountain was named Shouson Mountain Road.

At the end of the 19th century, Mr. Sun Yat-sen launched an anti-Qing armed uprising, and a group of patriotic wealthy merchants in Hong Kong became followers of Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary cause. They joined the Xingzhong Association and the League, generously contributed, and provided huge support for the revolution, and some even went bankrupt.

Li Jitang is the son of wealthy businessman Li Sheng. He met Sun Yat-sen in 1895 and joined the Xingzhong Association in 1900. "The members of the revolutionary party in the Qing dynasty donated to the biggest rebels in the previous uprisings, with Li Jitang as the first." Feng Ziyou wrote in "Revolutionary History". From them, you can see the sentiment and integrity of patriotic businessmen.
