At the initiative of the Security Service of Ukraine, official Kiev terminated the agreement with Russia on cooperation in the fight against terrorism. The decision is sad, but at the same time quite logical and even having a certain shade of honesty. Among the numerous “feats” of the Ukrainian special services in recent years, including the casting of sabotage units in the Crimea with the aim of committing terrorist acts on the peninsula. In the course of this sensational incident in the summer of 2016, however, saboteurs were caught, not from the SBU, but from another Kiev office - the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense. But this is, you see, the details. The main thing is this: to have obligations to Russia in the framework of the joint fight against terrorism and at the same time to try to instill terrorism in Russia is somehow not "in a kid's way."

Is it really ripe in official Kiev to admit this obvious fact? The unusual, one might even say, unique “honesty” of the Ukrainian authorities almost made me cry. But this fleeting moment of tenderness quickly passed. I pinched myself behind my ear and, with an effort of my will, made my boiling mind return to a much more unsightly reality. No, the “honesty” that was not completely misunderstood made the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine officially abandon the joint fight against terrorism. This decision of the government in Kiev is just another element of the dismantling of the election program of Vladimir Zelensky, with which he triumphantly came to power last year.

Some time ago, for some reason, I really wanted to reread the inaugural speech of the then new president of Ukraine, which he delivered on May 20 last year in Kiev. When this intention of mine was realized, I again almost cried. Although no, I take back the word “again” in the previous sentence. After all, this time I had to fight not with emotion, but with an almost irresistible desire to laugh out loud.

“And our first task is a ceasefire in the Donbass. I was often asked: “What are you ready for a ceasefire?” Weird question. And what are you ready for the life of people close to you? I can assure: so that our heroes no longer die, I am ready for anything. And I'm definitely not afraid to make difficult decisions. I’m ready to lose my popularity, my ratings, and, if necessary, I’ll be ready to lose my position without hesitation so that only peace comes. ” This part of Vladimir Zelensky’s speech I didn’t even have to particularly refresh in my memory. I literally remembered this solemn promise of the new leader of Ukraine even at the moment when he took office.

A little over a year has passed. What has really been done during this time in terms of resolving what Zelensky himself loudly called last May his first priority?

The answer is obvious: by and large nothing. I will not take sin upon my soul and declare that Zelensky forgot about his solemn oath right after he said it. The new president of Ukraine honestly tried to advance in the direction indicated by himself, but as soon as he came across the very first obstacle along the way, he immediately wilted and lost interest in further movement.

Managing to work as an adviser to the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on the reintegration and restoration of the Donbass, the famous showman Sergei Sivokho in Kiev is convinced that the matter is not about Zelensky’s timidity, but his environment. In an interview with STRANA.Ua, this politician who was expelled from his public post by the radicals (expelled in the literal sense: Sivokho lost his post after being beaten by nationalists for a "conciliatory position" in relation to Donbass and Russia) explained the essence of what was happening on our eyes:

“I’m sure that Vladimir Alexandrovich still has a great desire to establish peace. He will not leave this track in any case. But the attitude, in my opinion, of the team is changing. When they all entered together, everyone had a drive, enthusiasm. Everything started to work out for everyone. But then something began to slip. People began to give up some. And an environment has begun to form around the president that does not want to follow the path of resistance. Let’s say we’ll leave for a more convenient way! ”

Very logical and sensible explanation. And also - very offensive for Zelensky. It turns out, after all, that it is not the President of Ukraine who runs his team. It turns out that Zelensky’s team is managing the president of Ukraine.

Vladimir Zelensky began his inaugural speech as follows: “Dear Ukrainians! After my election victory, my six-year-old son said: “Yes! They say on TV that Zelensky is the president ... It turns out that I am also the president ?! ” Sorry, baby, but you are not the president, and your dad is also not the president at all. Real presidents not only make oath promises, but also fight for their fulfillment. Real presidents rule the country themselves, and do not delegate this tedious task to their team.

However, Ukraine has no other president besides Zelensky at the moment. That is why what is happening in it is happening in the country. Therefore, instead of real, not ostentatious attempts to establish peace, Zelensky’s team breaks the last remaining agreements with Russia. Vladimir Zelensky as a really significant politician disappears, like the Cheshire Cat: the smile is still there, but everything else has already evaporated somewhere.
