The departmental council of Eure-et-Loir said Wednesday victim of a cyber attack "of scale", rendering inoperative the whole of its computer system. "Since Monday, July 6, all the information systems of the departmental council are out of service," wrote the body in a statement on its website.

"Our technical teams are fully mobilized in order to guarantee the continuity of public service and a return to normalcy as soon as possible," added the departmental council. According to the prosecutor's office of the Republic of Chartres, a complaint for attacks on automated data processing systems (Stad) has been filed by the departmental council. It was sent to section J3 of the Paris prosecutor's office, which specializes in cybercrime.

The attack, which began on Sunday, is "the practice of ransomware," said the prosecution. The departmental council did not wish to give more information.
