Almost ten years after the premiere of the documentary experimental film Life in One Day, YouTube video hosting announced a decision to release its sequel. According to Variety, the production of the second part will be directed by director Kevin MacDonald, and Ridley Scott will act as the producer of the tape. They, in collaboration with other filmmakers, worked on an original project.

The essence of the second part will remain the same: the movie will include videos from network users. Everyone who wants to take part in the project needs to make a video about his life on Saturday, July 25 and send it to the organizers before August 2.

Producers offer others to talk about their usual activities, to report on an important event or to share their social position. In short, the project participants can report everything that seems to them important on a specified day.

In addition, the project team asks to tell what potential co-authors like to do, what would they like to change in the world and in their life, what are they afraid of, and also what lies in their pockets.

Among the rules presented to the content - compliance with copyright and other legal subtleties. So, the organizers will require written consent to the shooting of all persons involved in the frame. Also, without special permission, the works of minor participants will not be considered.

After August 2, a team of 30 people from around the world will begin to look through the materials sent and translate them into English. Then the editors will join in the work: together with Kevin MacDonald, they will form the final plot of the film from the provided videos.

The premiere of the film will take place at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021. Also, the tape will be available on YouTube.

Ten years later

Kevin MacDonald said that the creation of the original film was one of the most enjoyable and exciting events in his life. Now the director would like to track what has changed in the world over the years.

“I am glad that ten years later we are working on the project“ Life in One Day 2020 ”. How have we changed during this time? How has our attitude to shooting ourselves changed? And now, at this historic turning point, what are our hopes for the future? ”Variety quotes the director as saying.

According to Tabitha Jackson, director of the Sundance festival, now is the right time to create such a project.

“Given the exclusivity of the current situation, this is an ideal moment to premiere a new part of this work, which in such an impressive way demonstrates the power of cinematic narration when it is necessary to reveal and sing our common humanity,” Jackson explained.

In the original film, "Life in One Day," clips from July 24, 2010 were used. In total, the organizers received about 80 thousand applications. The premiere of the tape took place at the Sundance festival on January 28, 2011. Later, the film was presented at other film festivals, and it also went on limited release in some countries.

Currently, over 16 million people have watched the YouTube feed. Her rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website is 79%, according to an estimate of almost 16 thousand users of the portal. Many viewers noted that the film lacks excessive sentimentality. In their opinion, the tape turned out contrasting, honest, sincere and life-affirming.
