The Bayonn public prosecutor, Marc Mariée (on the right) - Mickaël Bosredon / 20 Minutes

The drivers of the public transport network of Bayonne and Biarritz renewed their right of withdrawal for the day on Wednesday. Tuesday evening, they must meet at around 8 p.m. the Secretary of State for Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, who travels to Bayonne, after the violent assault of a driver, Sunday evening. The 59-year-old man is still in a state of brain death.

The prosecutor of the Republic of Bayonne, Marc Mariée, for his part took stock of the case. “One person was arrested on the spot, and as part of this investigation, four people, including a minor, were arrested in an apartment in the Balichon district on Monday morning. The minor was exonerated and his police custody was lifted. Many witnesses were heard during the day on Tuesday. "

Beaten especially at head level

The magistrate reconstituted the course of the evening. “Three individuals, including one with a dog, took place in the Tram'Bus in the direction of Biarritz. At Balichon they were joined by a fourth individual. The driver checked the latter, and asked everyone to put their mask on their face. He was then allegedly subjected to insults and a stampede. He was pushed outside the vehicle. Two of the four individuals then kicked and punched him, particularly at head level, causing him serious injuries. They fled leaving the victim unconscious. "

"The violence of the beatings," he continues, "as well as the statements collected, led me to initiate a procedure of attempted homicide against the two main accused. The victim is still hospitalized in the intensive care unit in Bayonne, in critical condition.

A judicial investigation has been opened, and the four defendants are presented this evening before the investigating judge, for an indictment: two for attempted murder, one for the removal of a criminal from the arrest and search and failure to assist a person in danger, and the fourth for failure to assist a person in danger. The magistrate requested their detention on remand.

Among the suspects in their twenties, some are already unfavorably known to the police.
