This weekend, Wu Guichun, a migrant worker who became a “net celebrity” by leaving a message to the Dongguan Library, received two more “gift packages”. On the one hand, he was hired as "Dongguan City Staff Bookstore Public Welfare Spokesperson". On the other hand, the trade union system will give away books for free, and the property company where he works will provide space for the two parties to build a staff bookstore, which will be convenient for Wu Guichun and the coworkers to read nearby.
National Federation of Trade Unions donated books worth 35,000 yuan
On July 4th, the first national employee theme reading event "China Dream·Working Beauty-A Victory for Xiaokang Strives for Me" jointly sponsored by Guangdong Federation of Trade Unions and China Workers Press was held in Dongguan. At this event, Wu Guichun was hired by the Dongguan City Federation of Trade Unions as the "Community Spokesperson for Dongguan's Staff Bookstore". The National Federation of Trade Unions will provide fixed support to Wu Guichun’s enterprise to build a staff bookstore. In the construction process of the national union staff bookstore in 2020, books worth 35,000 yuan will be donated.
"This is a good thing. I have added a convenient reading place myself, and it can drive more people to read." Wu Guichun was very excited when she knew she had the opportunity to read at home. At present, Wu Guichun has been working on greening and maintenance in a residential area under the responsibility of Dongguan Everbright Property Company. It has been working for a week and provides free food and accommodation.
Wang Rumin, the property manager of the community, told reporters that they will find a space in the community clubhouse to build a staff bookstore. The design is now underway and it is expected to be completed in one month. At that time, Wu Guichun not only can go to read books at any time after work, but also demonstrates to lead the workers around him to feel the fragrance of books.
The reporter learned that the construction of the national trade union staff bookstore started in 2008. Up to now, Guangdong Province has built a total of 868 national trade union staff bookstore demonstration sites, elected nearly 100 "scented enterprises", and driven the construction of nearly 120,000 staff bookstores at the grassroots level. Covering more than 3 million service employees, the company has gradually formed a working mechanism in which enterprises attach importance to, union operation, department cooperation, and employee participation, and created a batch of "Guangdong experience" that can be copied and promoted.
Next, trade unions at all levels in Guangdong will continue to expand the coverage of physical bookstores and e-bookstores to create more conditions for employees to study. At the same time, we will discover and train outstanding staff reading organizations, reading talents, staff bookstore demonstration sites and other typical services, serving more staff like Wu Guichun, and illuminating forward with the light of knowledge.

"I'm just an ordinary migrant worker, just because I like to read books, only because of an accidental opportunity to let me know to everyone. In this sense, it really is a book that lights up my life." Wu Guichun preached affectionately at the ceremony of the public welfare spokesperson for the staff bookstore in Dongguan. In the future, he will make good use of the role of spokesperson, cooperate with trade unions to participate more in public welfare activities, and spread positive energy to migrant workers.
Wu Guichun was recently reading a book called "He Mei Ancient Poetry and Literature". The book not only collected ancient poems, but also described the rules of ancient academies such as Bailudong Academy. This fascinated him who liked to go in and out of the modern library. Although a lot of content was written in ancient text, and it was a bit unclear to read, Wu Guichun was still nibbling slowly. He wanted to understand how ancient libraries operated.
Wu Guichun hopes that there will be more history books in the staff bookstore that is built around him. Books like "Spring and Autumn", "Eastern Zhou Lie Guozhi" and "Qin Huang Han Wu", "Tang Zong Song Zu" are his favorite. After reading these books again and again, he will read them again and again. If he encounters unrecognized words, he will solve them by looking up the dictionary. "The good people, loyal officials, and wise men in the book all have a code of conduct." In Wu Guichun's view, the book can be rational and has no harm to people. In the book, he can find the truth of being a person.
