We take the direction of Cameroon… There, between 5,000 and 10,000 young girls are paid for sexual services, according to non-governmental organizations. Yes, we are talking about prostitution.

Publicity

The number of young people in prostitution has increased sharply in recent years in Cameroon. Without being able to quantify this trend, according to NGOs, the internet and social networks are behind this increase.

The Cameroonian Penal Code condemns this practice to imprisonment, but despite the dissuasive nature of the penalty incurred, more and more young people fall into prostitution. They hope to be autonomous and financially independent and seem to mock the multiple dangers they take.

To better understand this phenomenon, our reporter Fabien Essiane conducted the survey in Cameroon. He went to the heart of young prostitution circles in Yaoundé, but also in Kribi, the port city in the south of the country.
