What will be the name of the mayor of Marseille? Answer Saturday, after a crazy suspense. Because in the city of Marseille, the municipal elections, whose poll was last Sunday, play the extensions.
Environmentalist Michèle Rubirola came out on top in the second round, but she only has a relative majority. Le Printemps marseillais has 42 municipal councilors (out of 101 elected officials), while at least 51 elected officials are needed to enjoy an absolute majority.
Alliances for power
Result: we will have to negotiate and make alliances to snatch the seat of mayor during a decisive "third round" Saturday morning, during a city council.
The negotiations and maneuvers are done and undone until the last minute. Former socialist senator Samia Ghali, who, with eight municipal councilors, plays the role of arbitrator, claims this Friday morning the post of first assistant to Michèle Rubirola.
Thursday afternoon, the thunderous announcements and declarations were launched on the right. Martine Vassal, candidate Les Républicains, has announced that she will give up the estate of Jean-Claude Gaudin in favor of Guy Teissier, MP for Bouches-du-Rhône.
A few hours later, a second elected LR, Lionel Royer-Perreaut, announced his dissident LR candidacy, claiming to be aware of "current agreements with the National Front" on the part of Guy Tessier's camp.
Could the nine Rassemblement national municipal councilors boost the election? Could the three seats of Bruno Gilles, a diverse candidate on the right, tip over in favor of an alliance?
Negotiations until the last moment
