The Collectif Citoyen 06 asks, in a press release addressed to the public prosecutor, Xavier Bonhomme, on June 18, to initiate “a legal procedure, on the basis of article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure” for “endangered of the people of Nice for lack of actions and results in the fight against air pollution ”. According to the file attached to the press release, this pollution would cause the premature death of "500 people" in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes).
The prosecutor, contacted by 20 Minutes confirmed "the very recent reception" of this request, without indicating the decisions of the Prosecutor's Office.
Measures taken by elected officials "not up to the scourge"
"It is established, on the basis of official documents and studies (ARS PACA, ANS, epidemiological studies) that around 500 Niçois die prematurely each year due to their overexposure to air pollution", writes the collective which also presents itself as a "citizen lobby for a sustainable territory".
While the metropolitan area of Nice has set up the Climate Air Energy Territorial Plan (PCAET) 2019-2025, and the department the Plan for the Protection of the Atmosphere of the Alpes-Maritimes (PPA06), the collective points to them and stresses that 'They are not "at the height of the plague" and of "chronic ineffectiveness".
