Chen Guoji was sworn in as Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's National Security Council

　　China News Agency, Hong Kong, July 2 (Xinhua) According to the Information Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Chen Guoji, Director of the Chief Executive’s Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, has been sworn in as Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s National Security Council on the afternoon of the 2nd.

　　In accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Maintenance of National Security," and on the nomination of the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Lin Zhengyue, the State Council decided on July 2, 2020: to appoint Chen Guoji as Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's National Security Committee.

　　Regarding the appointment of Chen Guoji, Lin Zhengyue stated that Chen Guoji, as the chief of the Chief Executive’s Office, has performed well in leading the office. He is convinced that Chen Guoji has the ability to serve as the Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s National Security Council and the Secretariat to support the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s national security. The committee bears heavy responsibility for maintaining national security.

　　The Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Maintenance of National Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region provides that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region shall establish a National Security Maintenance Committee, which shall be responsible for the maintenance of the national security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, shall bear the main responsibility for the maintenance of national security, and shall accept the supervision and accountability of the Central People’s Government .

　　The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s National Security Council is chaired by the Chief Executive. Its members include the Chief Secretary for Administration, the Financial Secretary, the Legal Secretary, the Secretary for Security, the Commissioner of Police, the head of the National Security Department of the Police Force, and immigration.
