It is essential for the summer… which could prove dangerous for the health of the youngest. Two environmental protection associations are alerting to "substances of concern" which they say they have found in sun creams for children. They request a referral from the Anses health agency.

“Given the number of substances of concern found in sun protection products for children, we request that ANSES be seized to assess the benefit / risk ratio between protection against the harmful effects of the sun and the risks posed by substances of concern ", Indicate these associations, Wecf France and Agir pour l'Environnement, in a press release.

Allergenic fragrances

They also ask for "the prohibition in children's products of ingredients classified as extremely worrying, including endocrine disruptors and nanoparticles: 4-MBC, homosalate, octocrylene, cyclypentasiloxane, cyclohexasiloxane, nanoparticulate titanium dioxide, phenoxyethanol in particular". "Likewise, fragrance substances established as allergens by contact in humans (...) should no longer be authorized in children's products", they argue.

Finally, they demand "an investigation by the DGCCRF (repression of fraud) and the ANSM (Medicines Agency) on compliance with the labeling obligations for nanoparticulate ingredients in cosmetics". "Deterrent sanctions" should be taken "in the event of a regulatory violation".

71 products screened

These associations have conducted an analysis of 71 sunscreen products for children and say they have found "29 substances of concern to varying degrees". Among the products that have been severely judged are the Sun for Kids SPF 50 + anti-sand comfort cream from the Lancaster brand, the Mixa fine solar sensitive skin mist 50 + for children from Mixa and the SPF 50 + Transparent wet skin spray from the Isdin Pediatrics brand.

According to the associations, ten of these 29 substances are "extremely worrying" (carcinogenic, neurotoxic, endocrine disruptors), seven are "very worrying" (especially because they are allergens) and twelve are "of concern" (raising "health problems or smaller environmental issues ”).
