Pearl Jam paid tribute to the nine fans who died during their performance at the Roskilde Festival in 2000. These festival-goers had died in the pit, suffocated by the crowd that had crashed into them while the group was playing on stage. The rockers expressed their sorrow, still alive, 20 years after the tragedy.

“It's been 20 years since that day. A normal festival show day ... show up 5 hours ahead. Wait for your slot. I barely remember it ... Sunny, I think. Lou Reed played, I think. Then rain and wind. But nothing has been the same since. ” Read the full statement at the link in bio.

“It's been twenty years since that day. A normal festival, we arrive five hours early, we wait for our turn. I barely remember it. It was fine, I think, Lou Reed played, I think. Then rain and wind. But nothing has been the same since. Twenty years later, our group has eleven more children, all precious, and twenty more years between us. Our understanding of the gravity and the loss felt by these parents is magnified when we imagine our own children dying as in Roskilde 2000, "posted the group on Instagram, from the pen of their guitarist, Steve Gossard.

Not responsible

The musician, who published his entire text on the group's website, explains that he has established "strong" links with certain families of victims "encountered over the years". "Every day, our hearts continue to suffer and our stomachs to turn around thinking about these dead young men and what could have been different if only ... but nothing changes," he added.

An investigation determined in 2002 that the organizers of the Roskilde were not responsible for the tragic accident, which claimed the lives of these young people aged 17 to 26 years. 43 other festival-goers were injured. No one has been prosecuted.

In 2003 Pearl Jam released a song, Love Boat Captain , in tribute to the victims. A memorial has also been erected on the festival site, a place of meditation and memory.
