At the Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Center of Jilin Province, two babies born in more than 10 days walked out of the pen for the first time, staring curiously at the outside world.

He Ji's father leisurely buried his head and ate elm leaves, showing two sharp upper canines from time to time. Mother Heji is very nervous about the approach of human beings. He runs around the two babies and often jumps over the heads of the two babies. Since the birth of Heji baby, Heji mother has been carefully hiding them deep in the pen.

He Ji is timid by nature and feels sensitive. When he is disturbed, he runs like a rabbit, making it difficult for people to get close.

The number of Heji is scarce, and the father and mother of Heji in the Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Center of Jilin Province have been rescued. In 2016, the Ji'an Forestry Bureau of Jilin Province rescued a male river deer and sent it to the Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Center of Jilin Province. This was the first time the species of Korean deer was discovered in Jilin Province. In 2017, Jilin Province and Longlong Forestry Bureau sent a rescued female river deer to Jilin Province Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Center.

After several years of artificial feeding, the two Heji grew up into adulthood and became spouses in 2019. On June 19 this year, they gave birth to two cubs.

Wang Haijun, Director of the Animal Management Department of the Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Center of Jilin Province, said that the successful breeding of the Heliconia subspecies provides valuable experience for China to protect and artificially breed the species.

It is reported that Heji is fond of plants, staple weed tender leaves, succulent and tender plant roots, leaves, etc. Wang Haijun said that Xiaohe deer is still in the milking stage. The foods fed by the two adult deer are mainly plant stems and leaves, apples, carrots, sweet potatoes and nest heads. (Finish)
