"Sendai Kuroge Wagyu" for lunch Supporting producers affected by the new corona Miyagi July 2, 4:39

In order to support Japanese beef producers, whose demand is declining due to the new coronavirus, elementary and junior high schools in Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture, served a meal using "Sendai Kuroge Wagyu".

This was carried out as part of a project in which Miyagi Prefecture subsidizes the cost of lunch to municipalities in an attempt to support producers who are suffering from a decline in demand due to the effects of restraining themselves from going out due to the new coronavirus.

On the 1st, six elementary and junior high schools in Shiogama City served a lunch using prefectural brand beef "Sendai Kuroge Wagyu", of which sukiyaki was served at Municipal No. 3 Elementary School.

In the 6th grade classroom, the staff of the prefecture first introduced that the demand for wagyu was low and that the wagyu producers were in trouble.

After this, the children started eating in a form that they did not face each other and said, “It was delicious” while tasting, and some of them had another meal to prevent infection.

One of the girls said, "I'm very happy because I can't usually eat. I knew that the producers had a hard time, so I felt thank you."

According to the prefecture, the beef that ranks "Sendai Kuroge Wagyu" has a wholesale price of about 1800 yen per kilo, which is about 600 yen lower than before.

The prefecture will continue to provide school meals using ingredients from prefectures in each municipality.

Hironori Yamaguchi, director of the Sendai Prefecture Regional Promotion Office, said, “We want to make children aware of Miyagi's wonderful ingredients so that they can lead to stable consumption in the future.”
