Mt. Asama Possibility of small-scale eruption "Volcanic activity is increasing" June 30, 19:31

About Mount Asama on the prefectural border between Nagano and Gunma, the Volcanic Eruption Prediction Liaison Committee said that the slope fluctuation that seems to indicate a bulge of the mountain continued from around June 20, and that the temperature inside the crater was also increased, ``volcanic activity increased. However, there is a possibility that a small eruption will occur in the future.”

The Volcano Eruption Prediction Liaison Committee, made up of experts, held regular meetings on the 30th to discuss the activities of Mount Asama.

From around June 20, Mount Asama has been continuously changing its slope, which seems to indicate the bulge of the mountain, and the number of volcanic earthquakes with the epicenter as the epicenter is increasing.

In addition, the amount of volcanic gas released per day has been as small as 200 tons or less since October last year, but it continues to be high, such as observing 1000 tons on June 25. From the image of the camera installed near the crater, the temperature rise inside the crater has been observed since late June.

Therefore, the Volcanic Eruption Prediction Liaison Committee summarized the view that "volcanic activity is increasing at Mt. Asama, and small eruptions may occur in the future."

The Japan Meteorological Agency has continued the eruption warning level "2", which indicates "regulation around the crater," and calls for warning of large volcanic blocks and pyroclastic flows associated with the eruption within a range of approximately 2 kilometers from the summit crater.
