Xinhua News Agency, Geneva, June 30-On June 30, the 44th meeting of the UN Human Rights Council was held in Geneva. At the meeting on the same day, Cuba made a joint statement on behalf of 53 countries, supporting China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to maintain national security legislation.

Cuba stated that non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign countries is an important principle of the United Nations Charter and a basic norm of international relations. National security legislation belongs to national legislative power, which is true of any country in the world. This is not a human rights issue and should not be discussed in the Human Rights Council.

Cuba emphasized that we believe that all countries have the right to pass legislation to maintain national security and appreciate measures taken for this purpose. We welcome the adoption of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Maintenance of National Security by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and reaffirm our adherence to the "one country, two systems" policy. We believe that this move is conducive to the long-term prosperity and stability of "one country, two systems" and the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. The legal rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents can be better exercised in a safe environment.

Cuba stated that we reiterate that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is an inseparable part of China. Hong Kong affairs are China’s internal affairs and the outside world should not interfere. We urge relevant parties to stop using Hong Kong-related issues to interfere in China's internal affairs.
