Agricultural chemicals safety review To confirm the risk to wild bees 4:10 on June 28, Ministry of the Environment

Given the impact of pesticides on the background of honeybee loss, the Ministry of the Environment has decided to confirm the risk to wild bees when assessing pesticide safety.

According to the Ministry of the Environment, overseas there are problems with the disappearance of large numbers of honeybees, and in some countries the use of some pesticides is restricted. In Japan, the pesticides used to control stink bugs also affect honeybees. It is said that there are cases that are suspected of being done.

For this reason, the Ministry of the Environment has established a policy of confirming the risk to wild bees, which play an important role in pollinating Japanese honeybees and other plants, when they are examined during the manufacture and sale of pesticides.

When a new standard value that must be adhered to is set and pesticides are sprayed on plants, manufacturers are required to investigate the amount and toxicity of pesticides that adhere to bees and are consumed by pollen and nectar.

Since the test method for wild bees has not been established yet, the policy is to estimate from the test results using honeybees for beekeeping, and the Ministry of the Environment will set a standard value in the future.
