From July 1, Germany will preside for six months in the European Union. That is, it will become the formal leader of Europe. True, Croatia was in front of her - and whom did it save from the coronavirus and other troubles?
On this occasion, Chancellor Merkel made a lengthy speech, the roundness of which could be envied by the authors of reports for the XXIV Congress of the CPSU. This alone is worth it: “We will create a Europe that will cope with the 21st century better than it is now.” In fact, gentlemen, it’s easier to cope than now, it would be better to know how. “We must strive not only for economic recovery, but also for social cohesion,” Merkel said the right words. And then I turned to ecology and climate issues. As if for three months of industry downtime, the Europeans have little ecology: wherever you look, it's continuous ecology. Once again, the chancellor spoke of quotas for polluting emissions from vehicles. That is, the mantra "kill the German auto industry" has not changed a bit. But environmental money doesn't smell.
In general, there seems to be some conflict with the money. The EU budget "is planned to be increased in order to plug the holes that have arisen due to prolonged quarantine." Well, since the UK will no longer pay, it will become more difficult to do so.
Guess who will pay? That's right - France and Germany. In this regard, the German taxpayer has already prepared to tighten his belts even tighter, because since 2015 the state has only been doing what it takes out of its pockets to its strange projects such as saving millions of Syrian refugees, most of whom are not even from Syria, yes, in general, and not refugees at all. And now Merkel again says that Europe should be an example and give a helping hand to those who need it.
Here it must be understood that this topic already stood before Merkel’s pandemic of such points in the negative, that even the most sneaky state began to merge it, brazenly calling it a lame duck, and Parteigenossen began trying on the chancellor’s chair. And the truth is that the pandemic saved Merkel. When she began to clear up the crisis, having in her hands the absolutely mediocre Minister of Health marketing Span, she suddenly became younger, cleaned her feathers, remembered the nineties, and even somehow coped with the heads of federal states who suddenly decided to try the boundaries of federalism. Actually, suspecting that now money will be mainly pulled from Germany (what to take from the southerners?), Germany somehow did not compete very strongly with France for the title of EU leader, but the very logic of the development of the European crisis pushes Germany to the top. And even it doesn’t matter that the next six months it will formally chair the EU.
It seems that the crown is now so toxic that even Macron, with his ambitions, prudently turns his eyes to the ceiling and pretends that it practically does not concern him.
The troubles of the European Union are just beginning, in fact. As this happened, we were already witnesses. And about shameful scenes with toilet paper, as well as the looting by some EU countries of medical supplies for other EU countries, we also remember. No matter how much the European officials are smiling at the camera, removing their masks. Masks have long been reset. Euro-solidarity as it is.
The fact that now Merkel will again have to officially work with Von der Leyen, the former Minister of Defense of Germany, who not only tops the list of the most mediocre cabinet ministers of Merkel, is also giving rise to the heat - now the opposition is demanding a criminal investigation into its activities in the ministry in the Bundestag. That is why she so quickly landed in Brussels.
And such characters rule the EU.
Then it’s clear that Merkel can simply say to herself: “Who, if not me.” Looking at the sailing Britain.
In the shadow of the overhanging Trump, who somehow firmly took up Germany and has already counted some billions of debt to the country for NATO. Moreover - using the military contingent in Germany as a club for elegant blackmail. His idea of withdrawing some of the American soldiers from Germany (which brings the local Atlantists, who were brainwashed in Yale, into a state of hysteria) is combined with a demonstrative separate appeal to Poland in the field of military cooperation and is too primitive. And it’s even understandable what it’s imprisoned for - under the completely banal tasks of pressure on Merkel, including with regard to Nord Stream 2.
Trump is simply arranged like a crocodile: here you click after his eyes - he will freeze, then you will press - he will move again. So all his reactions are completely reptilian. But this does not improve the atmosphere in Europe. Political. All the rest, on the contrary, is cleansed.
And now, in such an environment, Merkel becomes the leader of Europe. Maybe she dreamed about it, but then, when there were much more comfortable conditions for the kingdom.
