Cyprien, Norman, Natoo, Ludovik, McFly and Carlito in "True Story" - Amazon Prime Video / Warner / Webedia

  • Amazon Prime Video is releasing its new original series, True Story , this Friday . The pitch? Celebrities from the world of cinema, television or song face French YouTube stars, to whom they tell an anecdote.
  • The particularity of the program lies in the way of staging the stories, then played by actors.
  • Cyprien Iov, Norman Thavaud, McFly and Carlito explain to  20 Minutes  why they agreed to participate in this project.

Anecdotes, we often have a lot to tell. Interesting stories are already more rare. But how many would be crazy enough to share them with millions of subscribers? Obviously, the moment you got stuck in an elevator would not be the subject of a series on Amazon Prime Video. However, the platform called on Jonathan Cohen, Antoine de Caunes and José Garcia, Julie Gayet, Olivier and Géraldine Nakache, Fianso and Zahia Dehar to return to an unlikely moment in their lives for the program True Story .

In a stunning Parisian setting, the celebrities face Natoo, Cyprien, Norman, Ludovik, and Mcfly & Carlito. Like Patrick Sabatier and Michel Drucker 2.0, the stars of the Web snatch confessions from their interlocutors. A marriage going wrong, a phone number revealed to millions of viewers, an unlikely meeting with an American star, the six anecdotes of the show are worth seeing. But True Story is not just a talk show like any other.

While the stars of cinema, television or song tell their stories, events come to life before our eyes. Comedians, helped by YouTubers, play the scenes that want to be (more or less) true to reality. "It mixes our two loves," explains McFly. The side a little flow, a little animators, it's discussion, you just have to be sincere. And then we started with fiction at the very beginning. We do it a little less often but each time it's very fun. "

A program inspired by an Australian format

The six YouTubers did not hesitate to join the project, inspired by an Australian format in which strangers tell their stories. "It's all the more intriguing with guests, it's like going further," says Cyprien Iov. This suggests that their true stories may be even more surprising. The sharpest may have made the connection with the "anecdotes contest" of McFly and Carlito, one of the most popular formats of their chain. All the more reason for them to accept this invitation "which makes them vibrate. "

During one day, each duo of YouTubeurs collected the confidences of two different guests. In the following weeks, the videographers went to make-up and dressing to shoot the skits integrated into True Story . “It was still a pretty fat shoot, there were a lot of things to shoot. It was almost mini-short films for each of the anecdotes, ”says Norman Thavaud.

Spectator animators

When they arrived on the set, the six YouTubers knew who their interlocutors would be, but did not know the story that was going to be told to them. Their exercise was therefore simple: sit down, listen and raise the guests. “I did not see that as a presenter at all. We had no lines, no text, no prompter, ”says Cyprien Iov.

Without script, the shooting therefore lasted more or less long depending on the guests. "What makes the program so charming is that it is not articulated, it is not prepared in advance," says Norman. This is something that is rarely found on television programs or on video platforms that are scripted. "

Norman and Cyprien or McFly and Carlito have already had the opportunity to export themselves outside their favorite platform in the past. For the first, it was on TF1 with the series Almost adults , and for the second, on TMC for an event bonus and even on Netflix in Until dawn . Would they be ready to repeat the experience with the streaming giants? "As we are creators of content, whether it be streams or fiction, we are led to want to do things with these platforms," confirms McFly. They are asking for it, the public is asking for it, and so are we. For the project to come to life, a condition must be included in the contract: keep the same DNA as on YouTube. And this, regardless of the platform.
