Middle 1 Suicide: Insufficient survey of schools to establish third party committee Tokyo Akishima June 25, 16:59

Tokyo Akishima City, who committed suicide three years ago in 2017, said that the bereaved family of a female student who was in the first year of junior high school did not acknowledge that it was caused by bullying. In response to the offer to do a survey, the city decided to do a detailed survey.

According to the Akishima City Board of Education, a female student in 1st grade at the time when she committed suicide in 2017 said that she was "badly told by her classmates" in a school questionnaire, etc. Although he was suing, the school did not acknowledge that bullying was the main cause, saying that the cause of suicide was "combined," and the city has not conducted further investigations.

For this reason, the bereaved family has requested that a third-party committee investigate that suicide of a female student is a “critical situation” as defined by the Act on Promotion of Measures against Bullying and that the investigation so far has been insufficient.

In response to this, the city decided to set up a third-party committee to conduct a detailed investigation on the 25th.

According to the city, at that time, the school did not record the results of the questionnaire conducted by the students and the records of the survey on the staff, so the members of the survey committee and the timing of the event were examined, and no records were recorded. We are also investigating the background.

Akishima City says, "We will take appropriate measures based on the wishes of the bereaved family."
