Actress Tina Fey - AdMedia / Starface

In the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement, it's time for a big cleaning for all the broadcasters. Including for series that have tried to be the most subtle with the problems of racism, like 30 Rock . The NBC comedy, broadcast between 2006 and 2013, told the story behind a sketch show, but according to its creator, Tina Fey, the program sometimes went too far. Like when he used blackface in several sequences.

"We want to improve with regard to race relations in the United States. We think that episodes that feature actors with make-up to change their skin color should no longer be broadcast, "she said in a statement relayed by Variety .

More subtlety

The creator, screenwriter and lead actress of the series recognizes that even if their intention, in the sequences in question, was to denounce racism and not to take blackface lightly, she should have acted with more subtlety. “I understand that the intention we had at the time does not give us the right, as white people, to use these images. I apologize for the pain they caused. In the future, no comedy fan should be able to come across these episodes. I thank NBCUniversal for accepting our request, ”she added.

The four episodes concerned are already removed from streaming platforms and will no longer be broadcast on NBC and its affiliated channels. 30 Rock is also set to return soon for a special episode, which will also serve as a promo for new NBCUniversal programs.
