A decapitated seal was found Saturday on a beach in Finistère, where others had already stranded in 2019 without a head, we learned this Tuesday from the environmental protection association Grumpy Nature.

"We found a decapitated seal on Saturday on the beach at Pen Trez, in the town of Saint-Nic," David Hemery, co-founder of the small environmental association, told AFP.

“He was a young male who was missing his head. We could see that it had been cut with a knife, "he assured, estimating that the death of the animal, a protected species," dates back several days, if not several weeks ". The discovery of the decapitated seal was reported to the Pelagis network, which records the stranding of marine mammals, he said.

A similar case in 2019

It is during the counting of sea birds that the association carries out each month in the bay of Douarnenez that the animal was found.

In February and March 2019, two seals had already been found beheaded on beaches in the department, in the Concarneau region. Two fishermen are being prosecuted in this case. They are scheduled to appear in October before the Quimper Criminal Court.

The organization Sea Shepherd France had filed a complaint following these discoveries.
