The family turns to Tom Petty's song used at the campaign meeting and writes on twitter that Tom Petty would not have wanted his music used in what they call a "hate campaign":
“Trump got no permission whatsoever to use this song - to promote a campaign that leaves many Americans and common sense behind. Tom Petty would never want one of his songs used for a hate campaign. "
The Trump campaign has not commented on the criticism of Tom Petty's family.
This is not the first time Donald Trump has been criticized for playing songs without approval, artists such as Queen, Rihanna, Elton John, Rolling Stones, Adele, Pharell Williams and REM have objected to Trump using their music during campaign meetings.
