Experts on prevention of sudden sports death suggest to protect your heart first

In the first half of this year, several consecutive sudden deaths on amateur football pitches sounded the alarm for "re-training" sports fans. After long-term home, how should sports activities be carried out correctly? Recently, medical experts gave suggestions in an exclusive interview with reporters from the Beijing News.

Insufficient exercise is not the real cause of sudden death

On May 31st, in an amateur football match in Yuyao, Ningbo, Zhang Wen, a 31-year-old former national team player, suddenly fell to the ground while playing football and died after being rescued. Because of Zhang Wen's former international identity, this matter has aroused widespread concern.

Zhang Wen’s experience is not unique. From March to early June this year, several sudden deaths of kickers in amateur football games have occurred.

Since the tragedy of sudden death in amateur football games mostly occurs after sports enthusiasts have been at home for a long time and relaunched fitness exercises, there are many voices inferring that sudden death may be related to long time at home and insufficient exercise.

In this regard, Li Kang, deputy chief physician of the Department of Cardiology of Beijing Hospital, holds a negative attitude, as does Zhang Jianmei, deputy chief physician of the Department of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation of the Sports Hospital. The full warm-up is essential." Beijing Guoan former team doctor and now Hebei Huaxia Happiness team doctor Shuangyin have many years of professional team medical experience. He also said in an interview with the Beijing News reporter that both for professional athletes and ordinary people, sudden death and Long-term inactivity is not necessarily linked.

So why do sudden deaths happen frequently on amateur football fields? Li Kang believes that this is related to the characteristics of high intensity, high explosiveness, high endurance, and open air in football. But he emphasized that the sudden death occurred because of the hidden dangers in the body of the person concerned.

"Stealth" cardiovascular disease is easily overlooked

What is the real cause of sudden exercise death? According to Li Kang, sudden death is divided into two categories clinically, namely sudden cardiac death and non-cardiac sudden death. The former refers to sudden death due to cardiac causes, while the latter refers to respiratory diseases and cerebrovascular diseases. sudden death.

Zhang Jianmei told the Beijing News that 60% to 85% of sudden deaths during exercise are caused by heart problems. If broken down by age, people under the age of 35 generally suffer from congenital and genetic defects, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, abnormal coronary origin, etc., and people over the age of 35 are generally due to acquired heart disease, such as coronary Atherosclerotic heart disease, also known as "coronary heart disease", causes sudden death.

In related media reports, some sudden deaths did not show heart discomfort during their lifetime, which made many people think that "the heart is safe without problems", which is the biggest misunderstanding in the eyes of experts. Zhang Jianmei said that the absence of congenital and inherited heart diseases does not mean that there is no acquired coronary heart disease, and the latter is easily overlooked because it is difficult to detect.

"Some people with sudden death do not have a history of heart disease, but because of bad lifestyle or overwork, plaque rupture after strenuous exercise, and eventually sudden death caused by myocardial infarction." Zhang Jianmei said that myocardial infarction is acute coronary syndrome in coronary heart disease One kind, "Many people with myocardial infarction that cause sudden death have no symptoms before the sudden death, and the cause of death may not be determined by autopsy."

"No history of heart disease does not mean that there is no heart disease. Hidden cardiovascular disease is the culprit of sudden death"-the two experts agreed that many people mistakenly think that they are far away from heart disease because the heart has no discomfort.

  Healthy life regular heart check

“It’s okay to play before, it doesn’t mean that you will be safe afterwards.” Li Kang believes that sports enthusiasts often fall into the misunderstanding that they are not professional athletes and do not need to undergo regular physical function tests. Football, basketball and other vigorous sports also need to do in-depth cardiovascular examination, after evaluation to determine whether you are suitable for this sport."

Experts call on the majority of sports enthusiasts to check the state of the heart through medical measures such as cardiac color Doppler ultrasound and electrocardiogram before combining the family medical history and their own medical history with the aid of the epidemic situation and recovering from exercise. Shuangyin also reminded the sports enthusiasts with years of team-following experience. If symptoms such as chest tightness and hypoxia occur during exercise, they should immediately stop exercising and go to the hospital for examination. Exercise of hypertension and diabetes patients should be very cautious.

In addition to strengthening medical monitoring, healthy lifestyles are also crucial. In this regard, Zhang Jianmei suggested that the diet structure should be adjusted before resuming exercise, and the "12345 principle" of daily nutrition intake was given: that is, 1 cup of milk, 250g carbohydrates, 3 parts of protein (one part of 50g, equivalent to one egg ), 4 principles (thick and thin, not sweet and not salty, eat less and eat more, eat seven or eight minutes) and 500g vegetables. In addition, the water intake is preferably about 1500 ml per day.

In terms of sports arrangements, Zhang Jianmei recommends that ordinary people exercise 3 to 5 days a week. Sports include brisk walking, jogging, swimming, pedaling, boarding, and various ball sports. In terms of exercise types, in addition to aerobic exercise, she also recommends doing appropriate resistance exercise, such as lifting dumbbells, pulling elastic bands, and so on.

  Sports venues should popularize AED

From many cases of sudden death, it is not difficult to find that the few who received the cardiopulmonary resuscitation treatment of the professional medical staff present were the first ones. More often, ordinary people rescued with limited medical knowledge, or there was nothing to do. At present, the doctors stationed in the stadium are still only in the professional arena. It is difficult to find full-time medical personnel with CPR skills in amateur sports and fitness facilities. In view of this situation, the two experts called for the future popularization of automatic external defibrillators (AED) in sports and fitness facilities, and the promotion of the use of AED technology.

AED is an instrument that can provide high-energy current shock defibrillation, help patients with cardiac arrest recover heart rhythm, and fight for rescue time. Zhang Jianmei said that if the device is used within 4 minutes of a sudden cardiac arrest, the survival rate can reach 50%. At present, AED has been popularized in many developed countries, and the international standard is to set one every 400 meters in public places. However, according to Zhang Jianmei, subject to funds, ideas and other factors, the popularity of the equipment in domestic sports venues is not high.

At present, large stadiums such as Dongdan Sports Center, Guang'an Gymnasium and Yuetan Gymnasium have been equipped with AED equipment, but in the amateur football stadiums where sudden deaths occur most, the popularity of AED is still very low. A number of amateur golf course staff told the Beijing News reporter that they were not equipped with AED equipment. "Almost haven't heard of any amateur golf course installed this." Mr. Liu said.

According to the Beijing News reporter, even in the field of professional sports, the popularity of AED is uneven. Taking the Chinese Super League as an example, the Chinese Football Association requires clubs to popularize AED in their teams and organize team doctors to learn how to use AED. The Beijing News reporter learned about the popularity of AED in many clubs. Some clubs have spread from the first team to the youth echelon, but some clubs have only the first team equipped with AED equipment.
