AMC, the largest chain of cinemas in the United States, has presented a plan for the reopening of its theaters after the closure due to the coronavirus, which does not include forcing spectators to come wearing a mask as a preventive measure against the contagion.

"AMC Safe & Clean" is the title of the plan with which this chain hopes to reopen the majority of its facilities in the US on July 15. The company specifies that its employees "must wear masks", but their posture is different for the public and this is included under a heading of recommendations titled "how can you help."

"Recommended personal protective equipment (PPE). Protect yourself and others by wearing a face mask, available for purchase if desired," the plan says. "In some municipalities, customers will have to wear face masks," he adds in relation to areas in the US where local, county or state authorities require face masks.

AMC CEO Adam Aron admitted that his decision has an explanation beyond the health emergency. "We did not want to be drawn into the political controversy , " he told Variety.

"We think it would be counterproductive if we forced to wear a mask to those who firmly believe that it is not necessary . We think that the vast majority of AMC customers will wear masks. When I go to see a movie at AMC, I will certainly wear a mask to lead by example." he added.

The rest of the measures for the reopening of AMC include aspects such as reducing the capacity of the rooms, reinforcing the cleanliness of the facilities or establishing distance criteria .

Regal and Cinemark, the second and third largest chains in the US, respectively, also recently unveiled their ideas to return to the cinema and will not force the public to wear masks beyond the specific regulations of each place.

"Wherever required by local authorities, all employees and customers will wear face masks," says Regal on its website.

For its part, Cinemark limited itself in a statement on Wednesday to point out that "they will strongly encourage" viewers to wear masks. "Wherever applicable, Cinemark will adhere to local regulations requiring residents to wear face masks in public," he added.

The pandemic has had devastating consequences in Hollywood, which had to stop all the filming and close all the theaters. Summer, which is usually the most lucrative time of year for the film industry, is presented in 2020 among gigantic unknowns after countless film delays that had to be released these months and that have left a summer calendar practically empty.

For the moment, although new postponements are not ruled out, the releases of two blockbusters remain in July: the "remake" of " Mulan " (July 24) and the new Christopher Nolan film " Tenet " (July 31).
