“Vaccination as scheduled” Inoculation reduction with new corona Pediatrics Association June 20, 5:06

The Japanese Academy of Pediatrics has called for vaccination as scheduled, as the number of children who have not been vaccinated after age 3 may be increasing due to the effect of the new coronavirus.

The Japan Academy of Pediatrics investigated the number of vaccinations carried out in Kawasaki City in March due to the spread of new coronavirus infection. As a result, compared to March last year, the first vaccination of Japanese encephalitis usually received at the age of 3 was reduced by about 35%, and the second prevention of measles and rubella from about 5 to 6 years old. The vaccination was reduced by about 50%.

Furthermore, immunizations such as tetanus received from 11 to 12 years old were reduced by about 70%.

On the other hand, vaccinations for 0-year-olds and 1-year-olds were not so different from last year.

The academic society is calling for vaccination as scheduled, as many children may have not been vaccinated for ages 3 and older due to the effect of the new coronavirus.

Tomohiro Katsuta, a lecturer at St. Marianna University School of Medicine, said, "There are some illnesses that can be mild even if the child grows older than 3 years of age, and there are many diseases that can be prevented by vaccination. In order to secure the limit, it is important to inoculate within the recommended period, and if it is late, we want to inoculate early."
