Hervé releases his first album - Romain Sellier

  • French artist Hervé is releasing his first album “Hyper” this Friday.
  • At the crossroads of French song and electro, the singer delivers a new musical project more solar and more personal than the EP "Mélancolie FC" with which he made himself known in 2019.

"I taped my phone to the bottom of my father's car, I fell in love, I wanted to do anything," gets excited Hervé at the mention of the shooting of the clip for his song  Maelström . A video dedicated to deconfinement and in which he frolics with madness and lightness in the countryside while singing: "Tell me again how beautiful this life is, you don't know how much I need to hear it." "

“It was a title that corresponded to the feeling I had, explains to 20 Minutes the 28-year-old artist who experienced deconfinement as a liberation. I didn't go out at all for two months. This clip was about letting go. "

"To the rhythm of the vagaries of the" Covid weather ""

Confined to Brittany, at his father's, Hervé made it a point of honor to bring his music to life - which one could qualify as an “electronic song” - despite being locked up, doubts and constraints. He got caught up in the game of lives and videos  made in  confinement. And he refined his first album, Hyper , which is out this Friday. “The preparation of this disc was quite intense. I lived to the rhythm of the vagaries of the "Covid weather", "he summarizes.

Hervé therefore decided to do with the means at hand, by turning the confined clip of  So good evil  in the kitchen of his father's house. “I found myself in a situation where my album was ready. I had to wait three months before releasing it and I didn't even know if I was going to be able to do it before the summer. I told myself that I had to get out of the music, be active and especially not bury myself or let myself be invaded by a negative energy, ”he analyzes. Obviously, Hervé fought the spleen with flying colors, if we believe his high-energy way of preparing pancakes (or pancakes?).

Football, odd jobs and Franco-British duo

Those who have been following Hervé since his highly noticed EP, Mélancolie FC , released last year, have discovered a taste of Hyper  with the clip of  featherweight Heart , which reminds us of the sweet era of nightclubs, delivered in 2019 .

If Hervé can do anything, he doesn't do it anyhow. He writes, composes, sings and produces, always in his room, then leaves to mix with his acolytes Julien Delfaud and Alex Gopher. Self-taught, he "learned everything with his computer, machines, YouTube, Internet, watching, by mimicry".

If everything seems super simple to hear, Hervé is nonetheless a hard worker, who holds in particular this rigor of the time when he practiced football in high doses: "I am someone who walks a lot at If you have to train two hours more, I will do it. "

This sense of application dates back to his adolescence. At the same time, he was doing odd jobs: housework, catering, ice cream parlor, theater as an underwriter ... Besides that, he continued his journey in music and eventually got noticed. So much so that he was advised in particular to write for others. This is how he co-signed three titles for Johnny Hallyday, appearing on his posthumous album: Forgive me , I am only a man and A child of the century .

He also - another musical adventure - met Dennis, a Briton with whom he formed Postaal, a group which had its small success. "I was too happy to make electro music that I liked, we were on Nova, on France Inter, we were filming in England, in Europe ...", he recalls. As soon as their album was released in 2018, Hervé decided to try the adventure solo and launched his own project.

"Very good, very bad"

What strikes Hervé the most is its modernity. It is also inevitable to make the comparison with Alain Bashung, as its timbre and its phrasing can recall those of the interpreter of  Gaby Oh Gaby.  A reference that does not displease the young artist at all. He shares with him the taste for the verb and his love for stories. And he also takes a song from her, The fear of words . "It's very flattering, he's the guy I listened to the most!" It's the best for me, ”he enthuses.

Less dark than  Mélancolie FC , Hyper  is more personal. "It was the word that resembled me the most, which would catalyze the intensity the most," he specifies. This is all that I experience hyper intensely, my hypersensitivity, my hyperactivity ... Hyper good, hyper bad. "

"It's an album of feelings and when I say more" solar ", it's because I opened the windows a little," he says. There is more room to say that sometimes it's good, too! And it will probably be even better when Hervé, who yearns for this, can once again perform in concert. If all goes well, it should be next September 21 at La Maroquinerie in Paris.
