"The class struggle is disappearing in favor of the war between" races "," said former Prime Minister Manuel Valls in an interview with Valeurs actuales to be published on Thursday, in which he also denounced the emergence of a "logic of victimization ”.

"The death of Adama Traoré is a drama", which is "instrumentalized by (his) sister, Assa, and the support collective," says Manuel Valls, after the demonstrations of June 2 and 13. “I obviously draw a distinction between the organizers of (these) demonstrations and those who go there in good faith, who are indignant at racism and want to denounce it. It's a planetary movement that is quite healthy, ”he adds.

But "comparisons with the racist and despicable murder of George Floyd (in the United States) are unacceptable because they serve to accuse France of being racist, to demonstrate supposed state racism". "The police, like the gendarmerie, are deeply republican," said the former interior minister.

"The idea of the existence of a white privilege is absurd and dangerous"

According to him, "this logic of victimization is reinforced thanks to the links between the indigenous movement and a part of the left: the NPA, environmentalists, a fringe of rebellious France, the CP, or even a minority of the Socialist Party".

For Manuel Valls, "the class struggle disappears in favor of confrontation, of war between" races ". This war is terrible, because it essentializes according to the color of skin. It is aggregating but it is also in competition with political Islam. It's an explosive cocktail. ”

The former head of government also believes that "the idea of the existence of a white privilege is absurd and dangerous. There is no question of denying that it is easier to be white than black in certain countries or districts. Whose fault is it ? Racism, discrimination, inequality… It is a question of equality and rights, not privilege ”. “Our only answer is the Republic. Not an addition of communities, ”he also claims. Asked about a possible entry into government, Manuel Valls, now a city councilor in Barcelona, replies: "I am not asking for anything. I remain attentive to what is happening in France ”.
