The American company VMI Worldwide will be engaged in the production of a biopic about the life of the late British musician, vocalist and founder of the rock band Motörhead Ian Fraser Kilmister, better known as Lemmy.

According to THR, the director of the project will be Greg Olliver, who in 2010 released the documentary film “Lemmy” about the life and career of the musician. The filmmaker is familiar with Motörhead’s work: he accompanied the band on tour for three years.

Olliver’s new project will also focus on Kilmister, who is considered the godfather of heavy metal. The film will cover the entire career of the artist from an early age.

The script for the film was written by Medeni Griffiths in collaboration with Greg Olliver. Producing will be Andre Relis ("Crime Bosses", "Grand Isle") and Damon Lane ("Anomaly", "Farewell"). Stefan Chirazi and Motörhead manager Todd Zingerman will join the project as executive producers. Actors are not approved yet.

Greg Olliver said that work on the biopic has been ongoing since 2013. The authors, on their own assurance, strive to ensure that "the story of Lemmy, members of Motörhead Phil Campbell and Mickey Dee and all those who played an important role in Lemmy's life, turned out to be true."

The director promised that the musicians will be proud of the film.

“All that you heard about Lemmy is most likely true ... but the point is not that he lived with rock and roll stereotypes, but that he created them. Marlborough Red and Jack Daniels for breakfast, amphetamines for dinner — all this is true. But behind this stern facade of rock and roll was a charismatic, complex and courageous man who never turned astray and continued to play music that made him happy, ”Olliver quoted THR as saying.

Steffan Chirazi and Todd Zingerman noted that they completely trust the director.

“This story has tremendous cultural value. If five years of life without him taught us anything, it is that Lemmy was more unique than anyone could imagine. In terms of human qualities and freedom of love, he simply had no equal. We know Greg (Olliver - RT ) well and trust him completely. We are delighted that the idea of this film is finally being realized, ”the producers said.

It is expected that the production of the painting will begin in early 2021.

Ian Fraser Kilmister was born December 24, 1945 in the city of Stoke-on-Trent, England. He became seriously interested in music in the 1960s. For some time, Kilmister worked as an assistant to Jimmy Hendrix, and then, in 1971, became a member of the Hawkwind band performing psychedelic rock. There Kilmister mainly played bass and sometimes sang. In 1972, as part of Hawkwind, he released the hit Silver Machine.

In 1975, Kilmister was arrested for drug possession and expelled from the group. The artist decided to assemble his own team, whose work would be more straightforward, loud and heavy than Hawkwind music.

Initially, the composition of the Motörhead group, founded in 1975, underwent changes, and in 1976 an established classic trio was assembled: Lemmy in charge of bass and vocals, drummer Phil Taylor and guitarist Eddie Clark.

Motörhead's music was often characterized as speed metal and thrash metal. It is believed that the team has become one of the pioneers in these areas and has had a significant impact on the development of heavy music in general.

One of Motörhead's first albums, Overkill and Bomber, sold well in the UK, and the 1980 CD Ace of Spades was positively received by American metallers.

In total, Motörhead released more than 20 studio albums, the last of which - Bad Magic - was released in 2015. Most discs have been successfully sold worldwide; many compositions took the leading lines in the charts of different countries. Motörhead has won several prestigious awards. Among them are Kerrang Awards, Grammys and others.

The group broke up after the death of Lemmy. He passed away on December 28, 2015 due to an aggressive form of cancer. The artist found out about his illness two days before his death. At that time he was 70 years old.
