  • The documentary My name is clitoris draws the portrait of a generation of young women, aged 20 to 28, eager to reclaim their pleasure.
  • He also makes a plea so that college and high school girls are better taught this part of their anatomy.
  • "We made the film we wanted to see when we were teenagers," they explain.
  • The film, available from this Wednesday in a virtual room, will be released in cinemas on Monday.

"I always thought I had my period through the pee hole," says Marie, in her twenties, to the camera. She is one of the twelve courageous women interviewed in the documentary My name is clitoris , which comes out on June 22 in theaters and is available this Wednesday in virtual preview. Young women who did not hesitate to speak in front of the camera about the discovery of their female bodies. But Marie is not the only one who, to her great regret, waited until adulthood before knowing some notions which should be known by all, but are hardly known, like the size of the clitoris (do you know that it's 11 centimeters, like an iceberg hiding under the womb?).

Through this documentary full of tenderness and humor, Lisa Billuart Monet and Daphnée Leblond portray a generation of young women, aged 20 to 28, eager to reclaim their pleasure. And make a plea so that we teach better to college and high school girls this part of their body. They thus scroll through anatomy boards taken from manuals or books, where the clitoris is simply not named, or worse, where it is written that it is "the size of a pea".

"It is not normal that we have to go through documentaries, it is not the role of filmmakers to ensure health prevention and awareness of discrimination. These are learning that must be done at school by outside workers, ”protested Daphnée, who would like these workers to be paid. "It is not normal for the State to base this type of basic information on volunteering," she said, citing as an example the association Claf'outils, which intervenes in schools on questions of sexuality, gender and health.

Emancipatory approach

If these young women confide so well, explain Lisa Billuart Monet and Daphnée Leblond, it may be because they are about the same age as the directors, who met five years ago on the benches of an art school, at INSAS in Brussels. This is where they started to work together on this idea, at the age of 21 and 25, after hours of discussing their sexuality together, both stumbling on unanswered questions. "We discovered that we had things that hindered us, such as the obligation of vaginal penetration with men and the censorship of masturbation," says Daphnée Leblond. "We made the film we wanted to see when we were teenagers," adds Lisa Billuart Monet.

Shot before #MeToo, the film already announces: “We asked the women what they wanted to add, and they all came back to the notion of consent. We can see that it was already in the era of time, "says Lisa Billuart Monet.

As young women nurtured by intersectionality, as this generation often is, they made sure to give voice to lesbian and racialized women. But do not expect to find young men around here: "We have an emancipatory process starting from ourselves", explains Daphnée Leblond. This will be the subject of a future film on male sexuality, they announce in unison.
