Actress Reese Witherspoon in a Draper James dress in Beverly Hills - WENN / VISUAL

The gesture seemed sincere. When the coronavirus pandemic reached the United States, Reese Witherspoon promised dresses from her brand Draper James to teachers across the country. In return, a lot of personal information was required to take advantage of this solidarity campaign. But by reading the small lines, one discovered the mention "as far as stocks are available". And on the stock side, there were 250 dresses to donate… against 1 million teachers who registered.

Reese ❤️ Teachers: “These past few weeks have shown me so much about humanity. I have been so encouraged by the ways people are showing up for each other. Particularly the teachers. During quarantine, teachers are broadcasting lessons from their own homes and figuring out new remote-learning technology and platforms on the fly, all while continuing to educate and connect with our kids. Advocating for the children of the world is no easy task, so I wanted to show teachers a little extra love right now. ” - @reesewitherspoon 📝🍎📓❤️ #DJLovesTeachers

Three participants therefore decided to file a complaint, accusing the star and his brand of having taken advantage of the crisis to build a client file of great value. In the legal documents obtained by The Blast, the complainants claim to have been bamboozled and demanded compensation. For its part, the brand denies all bad intentions.

A misunderstanding ?

"This complaint is an unfair attempt to exploit the good intentions of Draper James, who was to honor the teaching community by offering hundreds of dresses. The fact that stocks were limited, since it was impossible to offer a free dress to all those who responded, was clearly communicated and cannot constitute the basis for prosecution, "said Draper James' lawyer in a statement.

As for the data collected via this initiative, Draper James did not address the subject.
